Social PsychologyAvailable on Sunday, April 11, 2021 6:27 PM EDT until Tuesday, April 20, 2021 11:59 PM EDT Must post first.SubscribeThe field of social psychology includes a long history of fascinating research, some of which prompted the establishment of the American psychological Association’s Code of Ethics. For this week’s discussion we will employ our analytical skills to evaluate four articles that look at pivotal social psychological research. Through our evaluation of this research, we will apply our knowledge of social psychological concepts, scientific methods, and science driven ethics.Your TaskPart 1: Read: Read the four articles provided this week. They are included in the Week 5 Learning Resources. Links to access the articles are included below as well.Part 2: Main Post: In order to create a focused community of learning, this week we will exchange perspectives and understanding. This will be achieved as follows:Select the article you would like to analyze and discuss its historical impact, and its influence on social psychology today. Read the article carefully and compose your responses to the assigned questions, provided below. Your responses should reflect your unique, personal, response to the study addressed. [For example: If you were out with your fellow social psychologists, deliberating the qualities of the study over coffee what points would you bring to that debate?] Once you have crafted your answers, post them here as your main post to this week’s discussion.Question Group 1: For Studies 1, 2, and 4:1. Briefly describe the problem (or research question), the hypothesis, the procedure (participants, methods) and results of the study.2. Do you see any potential problems with this study, i.e., methodological issues, ethical concerns, etc.?3. Do you agree with the authors’ conclusions? Are there other factors we should consider?4. In your opinion, could this study be repeated today and with the same results? Why or why not?5. From what you know of social psychology, or other pertinent psychology topics, why might this study have been important?Question Group 2: For Study 3:1) What is the Abilene paradox? Describe some of the symptoms of organizations caught in the paradox.2) Tell us about one of the case studies that Harvey (1974) describes on pages 67-69.3) Harvey discusses 5 factors when analyzing the paradox. Discuss at least two of these and their importance in the paradox.4) On page 73, Harvey discusses several terms that describe the risk factors of his model (A Possible Abilene Bypass). Discuss one of these as it relates to his model and to your understanding of these terms in social psychology.5) How would someone go about diagnosing the paradox? What suggestions does Harvey make?6) What are his recommendations for coping with the paradox?Part 3: Peer follow-up: Respond to two of your classmates’ postings, selecting two who discuss an article different from the one you selected. Provide constructive, thoughtful feedback designed to build an engaging dialog. To achieve this, ask questions and share insights that will contribute to a broader analysis of the topic(s) at hand.

Cross Cultural Psychology

Globalization and Cross-cultural PsychologySubscribeThe readings for Week 5 discuss how globalization and the spread of new concepts and ideas and change from other cultures can cause anxiety. The studies done in places like Samoa are now world famous and presented in nearly every sociology and cross-cultural psychology course around the world. As we have seen earlier in this course, change, especially changes in technology culture, can often bring great improvements in human life. For example, think of improvements in medicine that extend life, or in information technology (robotics, computers, the cell phone, social media, etc.). Why is it then that the effects of globalization can cause so much cultural anxiety? For this conference discussion, please answer the following two questions. Be sure to support your comments with evidence of research (citations) and respond to at least two other students main postings.1. Imagine you are a 55 year old American factory worker looking forward to retirement but afraid of being “laid off” by new technology in your workplace. You have a high school education but never attended college. Over the years you have seen your section of the city and neighborhood change as the older generation of white residents like you has aged and moved away or passed away. Most of the new arrivals in your neighborhood are ethnic minorities and most do not speak English at home. The languages you now mostly hear on the streets include Spanish and some other languages you cannot even identify. The school board is asking the mayor to increase the school budget (and taxes) to provide for more teaching aides to assist teachers in the crowded schools. Explain how this combination of factors might contribute to your outlook and concerns.2. Imagine that you are the ethnic minority parents of two school age children (6 and 12 years old) that just moved in to the same neighborhood after waiting years to move into the United States. You want to earn enough money to buy your own home as soon as possible and you are also very determined to have your children learn English and possibly have at least some lessons in the schools taught in your native language so they do not fall behind in learning. You also hope to convert or build a place of worship for your religious beliefs. Finally, you hope to bring your aging parents and siblings to join you in your new neighborhood. Explain how this combination of factors might contribute to your outlook and concerns.

Personality Disorder

Based on the information I provide and what occurs in the clips, make your best guess as to what personality disorder is represented (note these are snippets and we could never diagnose with so little information, but make your best guess).Clip 1: Tea in the sitting room scene. What do you think the husband (Christopher Tietjen) has? What do you think the wife (Sylvia) has? Support your answer for both [make sure to listen to my background info as well that I give before and just after the scene].Clip 2: Hotel room scene. Based on this scene, expand on your evidence for Sylvia’s potential personality disorder. {you can stick with what you had when you first saw clip 1 and add to it or change it and explain why- just be sure to support your answer}Clip 3: Summarize the interview of the woman with BPD. Discuss your reaction to what she said (what surprised you, stood out to you, interested you, etc.)

The Lifespan

The purpose of this paper is to integrate the theory and practice principles we have learned and to apply them to a living person’s experience of loss. The outline below is provided as a guide, not a rigid format. Each subsection should be labeled, but not all questions are appropriate to your respondent’s loss. The order is not prescribed- flow of the paper’s narrative is more important than answering questions in order. Although this is a formal paper and proper grammar, syntax, spelling and citation are expected, you may use “I” judiciously (especially in the summary). The paper itself is typically 10-15 pages, not including the interview.I. The Respondent: Describe the person’s demographics, their developmental age and functioning, and your relationship to the respondent. What intersectional identities impact their loss or their mourning of it?II. The Loss: Describe the person’s loss, both referring to the words they used (in the transcript, but also your classification of the loss (ie a disenfranchised loss of a loved pet during the adolescent years)).III. Application of Grief Theory: Think about the information you elicited about how the person experienced their loss and particularly how they believed their grief process evolved. Try to use several sections of the transcript to show the evolution of the grief process over time while possibly applying the questions below to a section or two (remember, each question is not appropriate for all losses)A. Does the person’s trajectory of grief fit better within classical grief theories, task or process oriented models of grief- classical, or newer post-modern models (Disenfranchised grief; Continuing Bonds; Meaning- making)? (Use appropriate professional literature)B. How do spirituality/ culture or other aspects play a role in the person’s grief process and/ or meaning- making?C. What area/s did the person struggle with as their grief evolved and what factors do you assess as critical to why they had more difficulty in those areas?IV Application of Practice:A. If you were providing grief work services to this person just after their loss, what models/ theories would inform your assessment and treatment plan? Integrate professional literature.B. What do you believe the person’s needs continue to be in regards to this loss and what would you recommend professionally to help?

Negative Internalization

Stereotypes are everywhere; they are on television, billboards, posters, magazines, and even on the internet. Stereotypes are presented everywhere in the media; from the stereotypical skinny model on the cover of a magazine, to a racial stereotype on television https://legitassignmenthelp.com/2021/04/15/stereotypes-are-everywhere/ The people creating these tactless items in the media may not be aware of the danger they are causing to society, but this unfortunate occurrence must be prevented. The media can unquestionably present danger to many people when they exhibit stereotyping. Stereotyping can lead to treacherous events, such as negative internalization and incorrect judgment. When people view advertisements in the media, they tend to internalize the stereotypes that are being used in them. The models used in the advertisements are what society use as models of the ideal human being. Therefore, people who do not fit these standards can feel insecure about themselves. When a company is selling a product, the company tends to sell it so that the buyers can improve something about themselves. A shampoo company advertises its shampoo and how it can …
