[SOLUTION] A Letter Concerning Toleration
uses Locke’s Letter Concerning Toleration and Plato’s Republic.this is the entire essay topic In “A Letter Concerning Toleration” Locke champions religious toleration in contrast with the restrictive practices of the churches of his day and the states that enforced these. Socrates, by contrast, practices intolerance In constructing his city in speech, suppressing the opinions about the gods prevalent among his contemporaries (Republic 376c-403a). Yet even Lockes toleration has its limits (beginning with intolerant religions, of course). How do Lockes criteria for exclusion compare with those of Socrates? [SOLUTION] Russia and Mongols
Pages from the book are in uploaded materialsEssay on if the mongol invasion helped benefit Russia or did not benefit Russia1.) The Mongol invasion of Russia had mainly negative consequences. 2.) The Mongol invasion benefitted certain Russians. Note that you will have to make your thesis statement more specific. If you choose number one, you will need to list two or three specific negative consequences and then back them up with evidence. If you choose the second, your thesis statement will have to be specific, saying which Russians benefitted and how. Please put your thesis statement into your own words. Your thesis statement should list the specific topics you’ll look at in the paper. For example: the negative consequences were x, y, and z. Then the body of the paper will discuss x in a paragraph or two, then y, and finally z. The conclusion will restate your main point. You may be tempted to say that both statements are true. Resist this. I want you to have the experience of defending and supporting one argument with evidence. For this, you need to have a clear, straightforward thesis. Also, the paper is too short for you to be able to defend both statements. In the paper, you are required to use at least four direct quotes from Kaiser. At least two of them must be from the primary source. Primary sources are written by people at the time the events occurred. Your primary source, the Novgorod Chronicle, is found in Kaiser, pp. 99-101. Please note, though, that each text has an introduction that is a secondary source because it is written by a historian after the fact. Quoting from these introductions will not count toward the two primary source quotes. A direct quote is a word for word copying of material from one of the texts. It must be enclosed by quotation marks at the beginning and end. You may use material from the internet if you wish, but it will not count towards the four quotes and must be enclosed in quotation marks and have a footnote giving the web address (http://etc) and date you accessed it. Everything not in quotation marks must be in your own words. If something is not in quotes and is it taken word for word from some other source, it is plagiarism and it will result in your getting a zero for the assignment, even if it is only a few lines. Properly citing the material will mean that you avoid getting a zero for the assignment. Each direct quote should have a footnote. Give the author of the quotation youre using. For example: As the Novgorod Chronicle stated, God let the pagans on us for our sins. Although Kaiser and Marker wrote the introduction for each source, they did not write these primary sources themselves. Therefore, when you cite from the primary source, call it by its name. The secondary sources are by Charles Halperin (pp. 104-107) and A. M. Sakharov (pp. 124-126). Name them when quoting from them. Example: A. M. Sakharov writes that the Mongol-Tatars not only destroyed towns but also took skillful urban craftsmen into captivity. Because I have given you the correct citation form, if you use an incorrect form, I will take off for it. Look up on the web how to insert footnotes in your word processing program. Because you have footnotes, you do not need a separate bibliography page. If you do not have four footnotes for four direct quotes, I will take a letter grade off the top.
