[SOLVED] Lessons Learned Paper

Class content features critiques of welfare policy from a variety of different perspectives. You also are tasked to constantly be on the lookout for contemporary issues related to poverty in the United States. This short synthesizing reflection paper (2 pages) asks you to link these two themes. What critiques of welfare policy seem particularly salient, convincing, and relevant to you? As policy has evolved and we find ourselves standing in 2020, which poverty issues persist? Can similar policy critiques be levied today? Or are there qualitative differences in today’s context that require policymakers to approach poverty policy differently? The universe of historical welfare policy critiques is large, and you will be able to choose your focus in this paper. Think about what you find compelling in our discussions, and then ask yourself two lines of questioning: first, “where did that come from” or “why did that happen?” and second, “how is it still relevant today?” and “what can its history teach us in this moment?” Papers should be 2 pages, double-spaced, with appropriate citations (you should use the APSA Style  (Links to an external site.)

(for example: Do you point out similarities and/or differences between the authors’ main arguments? Are you able to summarize shared views? Are you able to use ethnographic data from different sources to provide evidence for an argument? Do you highlight additional insights by one author that the others might not have included in their texts?)    How well is your paper organized? Does it have introduction, main body and conclusion? [SOLVED] Texas Legislature Assignment

Every August, Texas has a “tax free weekend.” School supplies and school clothes can be purchased for a few days without the addition of Texas’ 6 1/4 % sales tax – which, around Houston, is really 8 1/4% because of the additional penny for the City of Houston and the additional penny for METRO. What about college textbooks? Have you priced them lately? Ours isn’t too bad (free, right?), but some of my students pay nearly $300 for some science and engineering books. Representative Terry Canales   (D-Edinburg) wants to cut college students in on the action before each regular semester. Go to the Texas Legislature’s website, https://capitol.texas.gov/Home.aspx  (????????)  and look up House Bill 21. Hint: Make sure you use the little pull-down menu to select the current legislative session (86R-2019 – that’s the 86th Regular session of the Texas Legislature) and type HB21 in the search window. What do you think? Write an essay explaining this bill and the problem it’s trying to solve. Explain the advantages and disadvantages with this approach. What happened to the bill? If you were a legislator, how would you have voted on this bill? Submit in Word. Cite your sources. [SOLVED] The Spirit of American Politics

This is regarding on my book: James A Morone and Rogan Kersh. (2018). By The People: Debating American Government, Fourth Custom Edition: . This is a short writing assignment.  It is a position paper, so there is no right or wrong answer, although the essay is evaluated for thoughtful consideration of the topics covered in this section of the course (The Spirit of American Politics, The Ideas That Shape America, The Constitution, and Federalism and Nationalism).  Students should choose one of the following questions to answer for their essay, first by asserting a position (5 pts.); and second, arguing why the position is the correct one (5 pts.).  Nonetheless, the essay must incorporate at least two references from the respective chapter in the Morone and Kersch textbook that pertains to the question selected (2 x 10 pts. = 20 pts.). The purpose of this assignment is for students to reflect on one of the topics discussed in class during this period.  Introducing evidence into the essay to back up the position is ideal, but not entirely necessary.  In any case, some thoughtful reflection or perhaps some rhetorical reasoning is required in the essay to be persuasive.  The following questions are broad, but this is on purpose.  Students may want to consider bringing in specifics to narrow the discussion.  A.  Do you believe the federal government should do more, the same, or less for the citizens of our country?  Why? B.  Considering the current number of amendments to the U.S. Constitution, the number of amendments that were proposed and failed, and the stability of our Constitution, do you believe the process for amending the U.S. Constitution is too difficult, just right, or too easy?  Why? C.  Which level of government — federal, state, local, or a combination of the three — do you believe is best able to protect the liberty, equality, and rights of all its citizens?  Why? D.  Do you think more or less people would vote if there were more viable political parties (perhaps three to five more) instead of the two main parties the U.S. currently has, or would voting levels remain the same?  Why? E.  Do you believe there should be term limits for members of Congress?  Why or why not? Also, when composing the document, use these guidelines:  Students’ papers should be 500 to 600 words long, but no more than two pages, double-spaced (5 pts.). Use 12-point (1 pt.) Times New Roman font (1 pt.). Measure margins 1” from the left, right, top, and bottom of the page (1 pt.), and justified to the left (1pt.). Electronically submit the paper as a Word document (5 pts.) under the class’s course menu in the Assignments link in WebCampus by 11:59 pm on the day its due. The essay should be well written using appropriate paragraphing, complete sentences, proper grammar, punctuation and syntax, and contain no spelling errors.  In other words, proofread the essay before submitting it (6pts).

[SOLVED] Texas Constitution Assignment

How is the Texas Constitution changed? As you’ve read in your text, changes to the Texas Constitution are proposed by the state legislature, but can only be approved by a majority vote in a statewide election. In 2017, voters adopted all seven amendments proposed by the state legislature. In 2019, legislators proposed ten amendments for voter consideration last month. The first one, Proposition 1, attempted to solve a problem for some small Texas towns that have trouble finding anybody to serve as municipal court judge. The Texas Constitution (Article 16, Sec. 20) generally prohibits a person from holding more than one  paid public office at the same time – which seems like a good idea. There is a list of exceptions for certain offices such as notary public (which, technically, is an appointed state office), as well as for members of the military and the reserves, etc. A few years ago, they added an exception for appointed municipal court judges in small towns where there may not be many lawyers willing to serve. This exception would allow one person to serve as a municipal court judge in several nearby small towns – probably just conducting traffic court for an hour or two every couple of weeks in each town. Some cities, however, elect their municipal court judges, and those elected judges are not covered by this exception. This year, legislators unanimously approved H.J.R. (“House Joint Resolution”) 72, to extend the more-than-one-city exception to elected municipal court judges. Write an essay about Proposition 1. Make sure you essay tells your reader: 1. How this got to on the ballot (Talk a little about H.J.R. 72 and its progress through the House and Senate). 2. What it was designed to do. 3. Who seemed to be in favor and against. 4. What potential problems could this create, if any? 5. How would you have voted on this if you had been a state legislator? 6. How did you vote (or how would you have voted) on this as a voter? 7. What did voters decide about the proposal, and why do you think they made that decision? Submit in Word (.docx). Cite your sources.
