The Two-Party System
Lots of people are frustrated with politics in America today. One common complaint is that they two-party system is at fault. People making this complaint worry that, for example, political views not represented by the two parties Republicans and Democrats are excluded from political discourse. Or that having only two parties limits the choices available on election day, and if neither candidate is desirable, theres no one left to choose. But there is another view, as youve read. This other view is that blaming the two-party system for todays problems is misguided. This argument says, among other things, that citizens of other countries with multi-party systems are no more satisfied with the state of their politics than Americans are with ours. We blame the two-party system, they say, because we think the grass is always greener on the other side, when really its not. And, they argue, we dont really have a two-party system, anyway. As recently as 1992, a third party, the Reform Party, got almost 19% of the national popular vote in a presidential election. But is this a good argument when, having earned 19% of the popular vote, the reform party got no electoral votes?Given what youve read, what do you think about the two-party system? Should we do something to change it? If so, what?Remember you need to make your Initial Post of at least 250 words and you need to complete

Effective Policy Advocate
Politics represents efforts by people in governmental and nongovernmental settings to secure their policy wishes by developing and using power resources. Bruce S. Jansson, Becoming an Effective Policy Advocate: From Policy Practice to Social Justice (8th ed.) Social workers are in the business of empowering people. They are also often faced with power structures that are entrenched and difficult to navigate. Skilful policy practitioners recognize the many kinds of power resources that exist, thus expanding their options in specific situations. As a social worker, you will learn various strategies that can create and expand personal networks that might be useful in negotiating your policy practice within an agency. You want your power resources to be recognized as effective ways to get things done, not as coercion and force. In this Discussion, you identify various kinds of power resources (including person-to-person, substantive, process, and procedural) that you can use to secure the adoption of a policy proposal. To prepare: Review Chapter 10 in your text, focusing on Jansson’s categorization of types of power resources in the policy-enacting task.

Nuclear Revolution
Topic/Research Question: The term “nuclear revolution” refers to nuclear weapons as providing states with the ability to protect their sovereignty and independence not via direct defense but rather through deterrence. Instead of defending ones borders or vital interests with conventional military forces, states could deter enemy attack by threatening to inflict unacceptable damage on an aggressor. As long as they possessed a secure second-strike retaliatory force, in short, they could deter attack by threatening to make an aggressors losses outweigh its gains. However, history has shown that countries with nuclear weapons programs still often engage in international competition and conflict. With this in mind, how does a nations effectiveness in developing a nuclear weapons program, as well as countries’ nuclear aspirations/restraint, effect nuclear proliferation? Reports are 5 pages, double spaced 12 point times new roman font with 1″ margins. The paper should be motivated by a clear research question, have a clear thesis, have consistent citations, and be relatively free of grammatical errors.

Employee Error Within an Organization
This essay will require substantial applied analysis: Briefly identify a persistent problem or challenge that was blamed on employee error within your organization (department/unit, past or present). Briefly explain how the “cause” of the persistent problem or challenge was identified. Briefly discuss how the problem was resolved (or handled). Applying what you have read in this class about shared mental models and systems thinking, discuss (in some depth) why “business as usual’ management tends to blame or focus on employee error for errors? From Deming’s perspective, what are the “causes” variation (i.e. errors)? In your answer, be sure to discuss and cite at least three of the books and/or articles that we have used in this course so far as well as one or two additional scholarly or professional publications.) NOTE: Do not use the Denhardt and Denhadt text as one of your sources. Applying a systems perspective or lens, identify any related (either direct or indirect) actors, agencies, departments, and so forth whose actions, mandates, and responsibilities are interrelated and affect one another. Applying a systems perspective or lens, concisely identify the root cause of the problem within the system and what you now believe you could have done from where you are in the organization (no matter how small) to address the problem or challenge constructively.
