–Research Project: This project, which will take the form of a research paper with minimum length of 15 (fifteen) double-spaced pages, counts for 30% of your course grade (the initial submission, due at the end of Week 11, is worth 5%, and the final submission is worth 25%). The paper will include a properly formatted bibliography chiefly utilizing sources other than ones listed on the syllabus. What challenges are you facing? Are there aspects of life that have improved under communism for you? To answer this question, you’ll need to find out some historical facts about what life was like under communism in the country you have chosen.? First, after you have selected a country, choose a leader. What were their policies and how did they impact the people? Are you a believer in the goals of the Communist Party line? Topic: Though the United States can lay claim to being a democracy, the federal government is also the world’s largest bureaucracy. First, explain the structure of the federal bureaucracy, starting from the president, through to the cabinet departments, independent agencies, and government corporations. Second, explain the main elements of bureaucratic autonomy and accountability, as described and explained in Jillson’s American Government. Discuss as well the problems with bureaucracy that the textbook identifies. Finally, compare and contrast the textbook’s discussion of “policy implementation and its pitfalls” with Alexander’s Hamilton’s discussion of “energy in the executive” in Federalist Papers 70 and 71. Instructions: Please write the papers based on the information from the class recording transcripts ( some parts in the transcripts may be irrelevant to the topic but please read through them to pick out necessary details. In a response of 150 words to 200 words, please explain the differences between various types of interest groups such as economic interest groups (i.e. business interest groups, manufacturing interest groups, agricultural interest groups, and public employee unions). What has been the role of environmental interest groups such as the Sierra Club, the Nature Conservancy, the Wilderness Society, and the Environmental Defense Fund? What fight did the Sierra Club wage and lose during the tenure of its first president, John Muir? Do interest groups of professionals fully reflect or represent all of the members of that particular profession (i.e. lawyers, doctors, nurses, etc.)? Do you feel the American Bar Association should have so much power in determining the relative merits of law schools (i.e. certifying them as Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 A.B.A. certified law schools)? Can one receive a similar level of education at a non-A.B.A. certified law school such as San Joaquin College of Law, and if so why? Alternatively, what role do public interest groups serve? For instance, what does the A.C.L.U. (American Civil Liberties Union) or the League of Women Voters do or provide for average citizens? What are some of the goals or aspirations of the non-partisan interest group Common Cause? Have they achieved some of those goals (i.e. removing troops from South Vietnam for instance)? What goals are they currently working on (stripping governors of the power to fill vacancies in the U.S. Senate for instance)? What contributions have consumer rights groups like Public Citizen by Ralph Nader provided to the American consumer? For instance, would you feel safe driving a Chevrolet Corvair after Nader’s book Unsafe at Any Speed?

Week 5 Module 2 – Discussion: Global HealthWhat are some of the U.S. political issues that impact global health?Identify global health initiatives important for nurses. What specific action can nurses take to becomes advocates for global health policy and advocacy.

For your Unit 3 assignment you will complete a critique of the case study titled “The Triple Aim Journey: Improving Population Health and Patients Experience of Care While Reducing Costs.” By Douglas McCarthy and Sarah Klein, Issues Research, Inc.   Your paper will include a review of current articles/periodical/textbooks on the topic of interest. A minimum of 7 references are required for this assignment. There are many articles and other references on the Triple Aim Initiative. You want to research references that can help provide supportive statements to your content. The paper will be 3-4 pages in length, excluding cover page and reference page. The paper must be written in APA format. You MUST use subheadings for each of the 10 primary sections in your paper including: Introduction, Overview, Cultural Competency, Leveraging of Technology, Global Health Initiatives,Critical Factors for Success, Mentoring/Coaching/Leading, Measuring Success, What I Learned From This Project and Conclusion. This helps to assure you do not omit a section and helps with the overall flow of the paper. Papers without the ten subheadings will not be accepted for review.  Clarification When writing your critique it is important that you be aware of these points of clarification. First, in the body of your paper regarding cultural competency you are addressing first whether the article does or does not address cultural issues or cultural competency. If it does, how was it addressed? If it does not, did you see opportunities where addressing cultural issues would have played a role in the study? Leveraging of Technology- here you want to address whether or not the article discusses any use of technology in the Triple Aim Initiative. If it was used what type and how was it used? If it was not addressed describe how it could have been used or addressed in the study. Global Health Initiatives- for the purposes of the assignment when we refer to global health initiatives it is defined as an “organized effort integrating the involvement of organizations, individuals, and stakeholders around the world to address a healthcare issue.” So here you will be discussing whether the Triple Aim Initiative used any global initiative and if so describe it. If not, then indicate whether you see opportunities it could have and how. Critical factors for success- what factors were part of the Initiative that were necessary for its success? You want to address that in this section as well as any thoughts you may have on what might have helped make the initiative more successful. Mentoring/coaching/leading- here you will address whether the Triple Aim Initiative received any mentoring, coaching or leading help and if so how. If not, what type of assistance would have been beneficial? Measuring Success-here you want to focus on whether or not the Triple Aim Initiative set up processes to measure its success. If it did then describe those measures.
