It might be helpful to think of your conversations with others as part of working out your rough draft.Try to minimize phrases like “I feel like…” It’s fine to write in the first person, but I want to see that you have heard and understand what authors and artists have to say on the subject. As always, please cite references, including the names of any artists quoted from the documentary.

American Prison System

FundingPrison privatization has prospered because of claims that for-profit facilities are more cost efficient at providing services than publicly-run institutions. The evidence does not support this assertion. The American prison system is massive and most of it has to do with the way the American legal system works and how it has changed over the last 40 years. In the 1970’s, lawmakers were dealing with a nationwide rash of drug-use and crime. By declaring a nation-wide war on drugs in 1971, President Richard Nixon set a precedent for hardline policies towards drug-related crime. The runaway growth of US corrections did not come overnight, and did not come from the government alone.New York governor Nelson Rockefeller followed suit declaring “For drug pushing, life sentence, no parole, no probation.” His policies once put into action promised 15 years to life in prison for drug users and dealers. His policies catalyzed the growth of a colossal corrections system that currently houses an estimated 2.2 million inmates. The business of prisons is deeply intertwined with a number of issues ranging from accounting shady accounting practices, to recidivism and other hidden social costs. However it is difficult to discern whether private prisons are a better use of taxpayer dollars especially if they serve government interests ahead of civil liberties and transparency. Is mandatory minimums part of the problem of not only crowding but also funding issues? Is prevention before incarceration an option?ReferenceGalvin, G., Underfunded, (2017). Diversity Project

Imagine that Lynette follows up with you in an e-mail shortly after reading your views on leadership and collaboration.E-mail From LynetteHi,Thanks for sending me your thoughts on the diversity issue at the Lakeland Clinic. The next step is for you to select a team of professionals who can help you in this project and prepare an introduction of the project for a first meeting with them.I want you to prepare a presentation to serve as a brief, but substantive introduction for the first meeting with a group of four members who will participate on the committee tasked with addressing the diversity issue. The presentation should be approximately 5 minutes (use as many slides as required with detailed speaker’s notes) so I can understand your approach. Not a lot of time or space, so keep things pretty high level. Do the following:Briefly outline the project goals and highlight 2–3 of the initial priorities to be addressed by the group. Explain the composition of your ideal team and why you chose them. (Note that you will not know the exact personnel yet, but assume we will recruit the people with the desired qualities and characteristics that you outline in the presentation.) Provide brief description of the type of professionals you believe can help define the problem and ultimately make recommendations on how to address it. You will want the group to be diverse and with each member being able to provide a unique perspective.Explain your role and describe how the committee will work together and achieve effective interprofessional collaboration. Describe how the group will communicate. Include how and when they will meet.Describe how ideas will be shared and decisions made.Describe roles, group function, and structure. Thanks,Lynette

General Interaction

I need a discussionNow that the option of any in-person aspect of learning has been suspended due to the coronavirus, in general, what do you think are some of the “pros” and “cons” of online classes? How do you feel about having classes totally online, rather than meeting weekly for lecture, discussion and general interaction? Is it good thing, a bad thing, or mainly a compromiseRegarding K-12 education, what effect do you think standardized tests like the FSA, FCAT etc., have on the quality of education? How does emphasis on test preparation detract from the overall educational experience? Do you have any examples from your own experiences in this regard? What effect does emphasis on things like standardization and “accountability” students and their instructors?

What barriers might exist that would prevent a person from achieving unconditional positive regard? Discuss thoroughly. How can Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs be useful in today’s world? Please spend some time watching the TED Talks video as Chip Conley talks about “Gross National Happiness” – an idea and principle used by the Butanese Government, based on Maslow’s hierarchy. What are your thoughts of the idea of Gross National Happiness? Is this something that we, as a Western society, can accomplish and achieve? Finally, consider about how you can use Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in your own life. Make a list of your own goals and compare these goals with the hierarchy. Do you believe you are you on the right track to achieving your goals? Why or why not? Are there things you need to do first before accomplishing your goals? If so, what might they be?
