Healthcare System Development

Healthcare System Development The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned. To support your work, use your text readings and the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format. Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial postings. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Cite sources in your responses to other classmates. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.   Healthcare System Development In this assignment, you will discuss how healthcare systems are developing and how nursing leaders are responding to this trend.   In healthcare today, with the shift from inpatient care to outpatient care, there is ongoing development of integrated systems, with all providers (e.g., hospitals and physician offices) being fiscally tied to each other.   Look at your own community and research how the providers are fiscally tied to each other. On the basis of your research, respond to the following questions:   ·                     Are hospitals in your community competing on the basis of price and quality? Why? What are the roles of nursing leaders in this community development? ·                     How are healthcare systems and providers in your community changing their programs and fiscal alignment? ·                     Hospitals and healthcare systems are having to compete for the same patients with similar diagnoses and procedures. The marketing departments of these facilities are enticing patients to come to their facilities. What are the specific enticements that hospitals and healthcare systems offer? Why? Are these enticements helping hospitals and healthcare facilities in your community gain market share? ·                     How are the various healthcare systems using quality? What are the ways and means used by healthcare systems to standout in the community? What programs do they have that make them stand out from the quality perspective?   ·                     How do these healthcare systems describe their own quality efforts?   ·                     How is nursing leadership changing its role in the development of these community systems?     When you write your scholarly discussion posts and assignments, it is important to be cognizant of how old your citations are that support your assertions.  Typically, you should not use anything that is over five years to support your assertions.   Textbooks provide foundational information but may not always be current in ongoing events like healthcare reform.  So, please be “thoughtful” when you consider how you support your assertions.

Law and Legislation

Peer response: Length: A minimum of 150 words per post, not including references Citations: At least one high-level scholarly reference in APA per post from within the last 5 years Peer Post: While the country institutes measure to deal with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, states continue to put measures in place to deal with the ongoing opioid crisis. The state of Arizona has instituted policies that focus on prevention and early interventions and increasing the access to substance use disorders, putting in place measures aimed at reducing stigma and protect individuals who inject drugs (PWID) from infectious diseases (Odenigbo, 2015). The State of Arizona is also looking at means to explore innovative payment models for treatment. Increasing public access to substance abuse through medication-assisted treatment, commonly referred to as MAT, can significantly lower infectious diseases through minimizing or doing away with an individual’s use of injection drugs. The State of Arizona has increased the coverage of medication-assisted treatment and other SUD treatment through private insurance and Medicaid and increased the percentage of individuals who use the medications. The state of Arizona, as part of its measures instituted the Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education Agenda Act 262 in 2018 (Odenigbo, 2015). The opioid treatment also increases the State treatment capabilities by building more health facilities to handle the opioid treatment. The Act requires health facilities to report the number of individuals treated and the treatment outcomes. As a health care advocate at a local level, I would contact the National Conference of Legislature (NCSL) to help me get in touch with the office of State governor Doug Ducey detailing the impact Substance Abuse Disease on the State populace, and call for a face to face meeting to discuss the enactment of SUD control legislations, request to attend and speak at health conventions, and call for financial backing from the State office to promote SUD implications awareness (A Alhassan, 2017).   References A Alhassan, A. Law and Legistation

Peer response: Length: A minimum of 150 words per post, not including references Citations: At least one high-level scholarly reference in APA per post from within the last 5 years Peer Post: One initiative that his especially important is the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act (HEROES) fund that will provide a pay raise to essential workers during the Covid-19 pandemic (Morrisin, 2020). This fund will first give money to those whose hourly rate is lower than those with a higher hourly rate. During these times, we need to keep our essential workers present in their jobs. It also is terrifying having to continually go to work, knowing that you are at increased risk of being exposed when others get to stay home. Both parties would have to agree on a hazard pay plan, hopefully by August for the HEROES fund because the Senate was going to be out for a month (Fay, 2020). It did reach the congressional floor, and the 1,815-page plan did go to vote and pass (Williams, 2020). At 3 trillion, it is the most expensive relief legislation in history. It encompasses pay for first-line workers, hazard pay for essential workers, extending unemployment protection, help with Covid-19 supplies, helping families pay for home utilities and mortgage/rent, and extension of employee retention tax credit (2020). The importance of hazard pay hits many of us very personally.  As a nurse currently working at Providence Reginal Medical Center, where we had one of the first documented Covid-19 patients, I can say not one of our nurses have received hazard pay for the care they provided. This is something that our union is currently actively working on for our nurses and other essential workers. Nurses and essential healthcare workers have been asked to send letters to our local state representatives, personalizing why we deserve hazard pay, which I have committed to write this week. I think it has been helpful having the union be able to reach all of our cell phones and supply us with links to directly send our response to the person in our government system that is on our side. The union has made it easy for us to respond collectively and personalize what we send and to whom it reaches. As nurses, we continue to care for those who need us during this pandemic and put those; we love at risk coming home at night. Both my husband and I work at the hospital. The pandemic has carried on for so long, and neither of us can see an end just yet. Collectively together as health care professionals, we are taking our concerns to our local Washington State government. Hopefully, this will result in our hospital and others having to provide us with the hazard so many healthcare providers deserve along with others in our community who go to work daily and increase their risks of getting sick.   References Fay, B.
