A Decision Support System (DSS) is a tool utilized by managers to make informed decisions. It is important to understand the roles that DSSs serve in assisting executives and managers in evaluating business processes and making decisions that will guide the future for enterprises. In this activity, you will create a DSS component in the form of a spreadsheet that will be utilized by the corporate Finance Department Manager to reach structured decisions relating to aviation fuel purchasing contracts. You will utilize the Microsoft Excel application to create the DSS.

Employment Interviewing Strategy Scenario: You are the human resources director of recruitment for XYZ Enterprises, and you are charged with developing an interview strategy to be used to fill an open position (choose one of the following): Buildings and grounds worker Executive assistant Controller Public relations officer The organization adheres to strict affirmative action guidelines to ensure that the best person is hired for every position. A search committee of five appropriate employees has been formed. The committee will meet prior to scheduling interviews. Your tasks are as follows: After making a position choice, your first task is to create a table (with an appropriate title and caption) that details the employee’s job description. After creating the table, prepare a report for the committee meeting that fully outlines the employment interviewing strategy XYZ plans to use during the search. The written assignment essay should be between 1050 and 1400 words (4 to 6 pages) in length. The report should demonstrate mastery of the concepts in Modules 1 through 5, be written in the third person, and be presented without editorializing. Ensure that the job description table is properly anchored to the prose; that is, there should be a concrete reference to the table in the report. Prior to submitting your assignment, ensure that your entry is an analysis and not simply a summary of findings. The paper must be written in conformance with the citation formatting requirements of APA style, and all sources, whether directly quoted or paraphrased, must be cited in the text of your assignment as well as included on a References page. Applying APA style can be easily accomplished by using Word’s “References” tab or by following the formatting requirements of APA Style.

Consider a job you previously held or your current job (if never employed consider the job of a relative or friend). Use the staffing components model to help you think through and describe the staffing process that led to your getting hired for the job. Trace and describe the process 1) Note any deviance from the model we studied this week in our reading, and from your own perspective as a job applicant, and (2) from the organization’s perspective. A review of the Applications listed at the end of the chapter may be helpful. Address your answer using the reading assignment and your own related experiences or thoughts. Find and discuss an article that offers current ideas about the topic of our discussion. Your article should be unique, not one already discussed by a classmate. (Enter the title of your article in discussion subject line.) Cite and provide an active link to the article. Initial post due Wednesday. You must post your initial response before you can view any other discussion threads.

Earlier in the course we discussed that all business is local. Now we are learning that it seems all ethical standards are local. Yet multinational enterprises (MNE) must still operate in these countries. Choose an ethical dilemma encountered by a new MNE in a foreign country (for example, child labor, women’s rights or environmental issues, etc.).   As a human resource professional, how would you advise the company to operate in a country with different ethical standards? What strategies or guidelines would you propose they consider to remain consistent with U.S. law but still operate in other countries that may have a lower ethical standard?

Nissan:  Recovering Supply Chain Operations Written Case Analysis 1.     Evaluate Nissan’s business continuity plan (BCP) to recover its supply chain operations.  Key areas include:  employee safety, protection of facilities, return to minimum acceptable service levels, work with supply chain partners to restore service, and restore operations to pre-crisis levels.   2.     What do you think of Nissan’s performance in managing supply chain disruption? Key operational strategies include: stockpiling inventory, diversifying and backing-up supply, managing demand and strengthening the supply chain.   3.     Discuss the resilience strategies that Nissan used to manage the crisis.  Strategies include:  BCP, risk mitigation, employee training, cross-national leadership, standard parts, information updates, risk assessment, cross-regional and cross-functional employees, demand management.   4.     What is a “barrel” supply chain?  How did this impact Nissan?  Is there another supply chain structure that is a better fit to manage risk?   5.     What adjustments / improvement measures should Nissan make before the next crisis?

This application assignment requires you to share a business-related article from the past 6 months that describes your view of our assigned course topic(s) for the week.  In other words, your view may explain the topic’s effect, relevance, importance, non-significance, etc. in workplace behavior.  This assignment should consist of three distinct paragraphs.  In the first paragraph, you will summarize the article you chose.  In the second paragraph, you will clearly identify and discuss the course topic(s) relevant to the article.  In the third and final paragraph, you should discuss your views about the topic and what the article stated.   It is imperative to choose a concept being covered in this module.  It is also important not to copy material from other related assignments or directly from the article itself–use proper citations and rewrite important components into your own words.  Concepts and verbatim material will receive a zero.   Current Event:  A news stories must be from a credible source within the last 6 months with appropriate citation. The context must be provided on why the story is immediately relevant to the topics being covered. Responses that are purely opinion and anecdotal are not considered to be substantive in nature. Original news story from an external source plus one additional external source required. Assigned textbook chapters from the course do not count as external sources, but you are welcome to use the textbook in addition to the required external resource. Turnitin Requirements: For each application assignment, your similarity score must meet a threshold of no more than 20%. Assignments with greater than 20% similarity must be revised and resubmitted to Turnitin until the 20% threshold is achieved. For resubmissions, it may take up to 24 hours for a new similarity score. It is your responsibility to allow enough time to receive a Turnitin similarity score report. Assignments exceeding the 20% threshold will receive a zero. I will be attaching the rubric as well as the current chapters and slides to find a current event article to relate to.  Please be sure to include an additional external reference and cite all of the references in the text and make sure the references are in APA format.

A topic of research should be chosen. It can be either a research paper or a startup concept. Once the topic is finalized, the draft research questions (based on which objectives of the study will be formed) must be developed (not more than three). Each selection must be discussed in detail with logic and rationale. Reasons for the topic should be discussed first followed by discussion on selection of each of the research questions.
