Using Animals for Research Purposes

Write an argumentative essay (4-5 pages) on the topic you have worked on. Things to keep in mind: Please make sure you have a claim for the paper (which, as already mentioned, should NOT be your general topic but a narrowed-down version that supports it). Ensure that you comply with the prescribed essay outline provided in class. You would need to refer to the “submission guidelines” in your syllabus in order to format the paper.  Your paper should have a title. Avoid informal language and colloquialisms. Show awareness of the readership/audience. Avoid a heavy reliance on personal anecdotes in your paper in order to maintain the objectivity of the topic. Use it sparingly and only when asked specifically for your personal experiences (refer to this Link   (Links to an external site.) Plagiarized papers will get zero points.   This is my Outline for the last assignment: First of all, the advantages of using animals in experimental research: 1. Example: without animals for research, some research results cannot be tested in vivo, let alone put into use. Animals used in experimental research can quickly get experimental results and improve the experiment. 2. Improve human health. The use of animals in drug research can help people fight diseases and prolong their lives. Secondly, the results of animal experiments: conditioned reflex experiment is that Russian biologists have revealed the nature of some learning behaviors by studying the various ways dogs produce saliva. Finally, different animals are used for different studies. For example, the skin of rabbits and guinea pigs is sensitive to stimulation, which is similar to that of human. Rabbit skin is often used to study the local effects of poisons on skin; rabbit ears can be used to study experimental mustard gas skin damage and frostbite and scald; cosmetics are especially suitable for the study of skin inside the ear. Nevertheless, there are many people who are against the use of animals in experiments for humanitarian reasons. But intellectually speaking, when the benefits to human beings are greater than the harm to animals, it makes sense for animals to use in experiments.

Psychoanalytic Criticism

Find a scholarly source about Psychoanalytic Criticism Hide Assignment Information Instructions Purpose: Practice analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing sources in preparation for your Final Project Researched Essay, which will entail taking one of your essays from Units 2, 3, or 4 and revising it to become a researched essay incorporating one of the theories of literary criticism we studied in Unit 1 (excluding Reader Response).  You will start this process by creating an annotated bibliography with one well-chosen source.  Tasks: Locate a scholarly source that would help you with your Unit 2 Essay.  The source can be on one of the literary criticism theories we studied in Unit 1, or a scholarly article about your chosen poem.  Seek help (from one of the embedded librarians or your professor) with locating sources, particularly if you are struggling to locate a scholarly source. Now, you will write an individual annotated bibliographic entry for this source. Complete the following: Begin with the MLA works cited entry for the text. Note that EbscoHost (in Galileo) will provide you with the MLA citation if you click “Cite” on the right-hand panel [and, scroll to the MLA entry]. And, also note that the works cited entry for the “Student-Selected Scholarly Articles” has been provided, in the “description” section (below the article’s title).  If you use a “Cite” button-generated citation, be sure to double-check the citation to ensure it is correctly formatted. This link shows you what a correct MLA 8th edition entry for a journal article found in a database should look like:  http://www.easybib.com/guides/citation-guides/mla-8/cite-journal-article-online-database-mla-8/ Then, write one well-developed paragraph that summarizes, synthesizes, and reflects on the source, using the outline below. Make sure that the paragraph contains specific information (not general observations that could apply to any source). Note that a single quote may be included—but the quote must be no more than one (fully) typed line. Write 2-3 sentences that summarize the source’s main argument and claims; be specific when summarizing the text and include parenthetical citations when appropriate. Write 2-3 sentences that discuss what evidence and examples the source uses to support its main focus/claims. Consider how effectively the author(s) presented her/his/their claims.  Keep in mind that your evaluation does not need to be only positive or negative; the source may be adept in certain areas, but not in others. Write 2-3 sentences that reflect on how you might use the article/source in your researched essay. Consider what new information you learned—and how the source “added” to the ongoing conversation about your topic. It may be helpful to imagine the author as a participant in an online discussion on the poem—what would she/he “say”? For reference, consult these resources: Sample MLA annotations [note that this paragraph does not include the “reflection” information]; and Purdue OWL’s explanation of an annotated bibliography. Submission Criteria (points may be deducted for not following these guidelines): Upload your bibliography to the submission folder by the due date given by your instructor.  On the first page of your assignment, include your name, date, and assignment name. Grading Criteria: One scholarly article from Galileo or other scholarly source; you may include additional sources if you like. Developed paragraphs that engage specific ideas in the texts (not general observations) for the distinct purposes of analysis, evaluation, and synthesis Clear, grammatically correct prose. Correct MLA guidelines for citations.

God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

According to Roy, “The God of Small Things is a book which connects the very smallest things to the very biggest.” How is this evident in Roy’s focus on the value of “smallness” and “small things” and their vital place in the larger political and cultural context in The God of Small Things? In other words, what are the small things in The God of Small Things and why are they important? Food for thought: • Examine the “small” things in relation to the “big” things. • How does the novel constantly emphasize the dignity of the powerless and deny those in power the exclusive right to define and justify their own actions? • How does Roy’s constant privileging of the small reject the conventional politics in its public pretentious form and replace it with personal relationships? • For Roy, this almost spiritual awareness of the relatedness of the world, in which “small things” dance on the edges of larger tragedies, does not rule out collective forms of activism; instead it becomes the very basis for a political and imaginative perspective which is grounded in local concerns. IMPORTANT: • Plan your essay by collecting together points for your argument. In the main body of your essay, you need to thread your developing argument through each paragraph consistently and logically, referring back to the terms established by the prompt, rephrasing and reframing as you go. • Ensure your essay doesn’t disintegrate into a series of disconnected building blocks. Create a neat and stable bridge between one paragraph and the next. • Use discourse markers—linking words and phrases like “on the other hand,” “however,” “although,” and “moreover”—to hold the individual paragraphs of your essay together and signpost the connections between different sections of your overarching argument. Please note that an A-level essay will demonstrate all of the following: • A clear introduction which orientates the reader and outlines your main argument. • A coherent and conceptualized argument which relates to the question title. • A confident movement around the text rather than a chronological picking through it. • Apt and effective quotations or references adapted to make sense withing the context of your own sentences. • A range of effective points about Byatt’s narrative methods. • A strong and personally engaged awareness of how a text can be interpreted by different readers and audiences in different ways at different times. • A sense that you are prepared to take on a good range of critical and theoretical perspectives. • A conclusion which effectively summarizes and consolidates your response and relates back to your essay title. • A good title.

Human Suffering and Mortality

For this assignment, you will write a 5-6 paragraph essay.  Although two very different literary works, both the Shahnameh and Inferno deal centrally with the existence of human suffering and mortality.  Discuss how the two deal with such issues as  what causes human suffering; what seems inevitably tragic about human existence; how one should deal with suffering; what one should learn from an understanding of human mortality. From the Shahnameh your essay will probably focus on Rustem, Sohrab, and/or Saiawush; for Dante, you have many options, but the following characters and their sad stories make especially good choices for the subject (but you can choose others if you wish; just one will do):  Virgil, Francesca, Pier della Vigna, Brunetto Latini, Guido de Montefeltro.
