Employment Discrimination

Unfortunately, employment discrimination can still be found in all industries across the country. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 defined protected classes of people aiming to reduce discrimination by holding employer’s responsible. Under Title VII of the Act, an individual’s race, color, religion, sex, or national origin is considered a protected class. Age and pregnancy have also been federally recognized protected classes by subsequent legislation.   Discuss if you believe these protected classes go far enough to prevent discrimination in the workplace. Would you add any additional classes of people, if so who and why? Lastly, have you ever experienced any form of discrimination in your employment? If so, how did you resolve the situation?

Political System

Our political system is characterized by certain fundamental features to include a system of laws, rights, and liberties. The laws, created and supported by the Constitutional framework, are designed to protect and secure the rights and liberties of individuals and groups throughout the United States. However, the government also must provide for the security of its citizens from serious internal and external threats that could cause severe damage to our country. Think about how the need for homeland and national security can create a dilemma where conflicts emerge between these security needs and the demands for civil rights and liberties. Write Icon Write: In your initial post, Explain what obligations the U.S. government has towards its citizens and how these obligations impact individual and group rights. Provide real-world examples to support your explanation, including one personal example from your own experiences. Using your personal example, explain the position of the two major parties and a third party, regarding the example you presented. Your initial post must be at least 300 words. If you are citing statistics our outside resources, please list the website or the reference entry.

Campaign Finance

Only source is https://www.thisamericanlife.org/461/take-the-money-and-run-for-office Why do you disagree with these 2 statements? “n the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court’s ruling was that money spent by corporations, associations, labor unions is a form of free speech and therefore protected under the First Amendment. There can’t be limitations on the funding of political broadcasts on candidate elections.  Yes, I think laws or the US constitution should change to reduce the influence of money in American elections.  I say this because we see that not having limitations makes it easier for the wealthy to financially “support candidates and campaigns they favor”. Money is influencing the elections and the source is not always revealed. Only a small percentage of people can afford to give 1,000 or more to a candidate. While Pelosi spends millions on an election per year, this only makes it politics be unfair. This increases the contribution limit and instead influences the wealthy people and groups over the elected official. An example from the podcast shared that this opened the door for “unlimited political spending by corporations and unions”. The podcast also mentions how the ruling affects the whole balance of the money and influences people have over the candidates.  If the laws were changed it would also help resolve the campaign finance problems and will allow for them to work on their current system. Another reason I say yes is because this will allow for more money to go to every election. This happens by multiple Political Action Committees, PACs being allowed to support a specific candidate and raise money for them.” Statement #2: I definitely think there should be laws against money in politics let alone influencing politics. It is the evil that controls the agenda. How can one fight a honest cause when money is involved? Why does Nancy Pelosi attend over 400 “Fundraisers” a year? Where is the morality in that? With so many parts moving… They know we the people will miss a simple “and” instead of “The” in the sentence of a 1000 words. The 2004 American Jobs Creation Act sounds like it is a great benefit for our country; But it was really to help with tax breaks to the lobbyists involved. It was reported that they received a 22.000% tax benefit. Come on… Who are you really helping? That is why money shouldn’t play a part in politics, its morally not right! in 2010 alone there was 3.5 billion dollars spent on lobbying. That can fix small countries… Its why Oil Companies get tax breaks but make a lot of money…or Fruits and Veggies get no breaks… Strange! Why do we spend 8 – 10 times more than any other country for cancer medicines?  in 2010, the citizens united case opened pandoras box by allowing corps and agencies to give unlimited cash amounts…. Hmmm!  I can’t say if Ami Bera ideas were aligned with mine.. But it shouldn’t be fair that American Crossroads can come in and simply change course by adding their money to a campaign. That in itself is unjust.  Honestly …. As long as we let them have control over the narrative … The truth” will never be presented.. It can’t be with other underlining agendas. But, I’m afraid we’ve come to far to turn back now!

Rule Of Law

This DB will help you to meet some of your course outcomes, including to “Understand the history of international conflict management and the direction it is moving today” and “to compare and contrast conflict management strategies used in an international setting versus a national setting.” Thus far we have been looking at the theoretical aspects of conflict management.  In future chapters we will look at the practical application and management strategies.  We will begin to see that there are challenges to all strategies.  One that will arise consistently is the issue of state sovereignty and the unwillingness of states to hand issues of national security off to international organizations.  So let’s begin to explore that from the theoretical side:   International Conflict Management necessarily requires international cooperation.  International organizations are associations of member states created by treaty.    The UN has stated, “The Rule of law is fundamental to international peace and security and political stability.”  Please read the article below on the Rule of Law: https://www.un.org/ruleoflaw/what-is-the-rule-of-law/   This UN article reads, “… Goal 16 is an enabling goals for Member States to generate national-level policy changes that advance progress on other SDGs (sustainable development goals).  The UN considers the rule of law an “important component of sustaining peace.”  Some of the areas that the rule of law encompasses are: extremism, hate speech, climate change/ environmental issues, cybercrime.    When considering the rule of law, what are some of the benefits of recognizing an international rule of law?  Can you think of any challenges this poses to national laws/ policies or sovereignty?    (Hint:  You may want to consider how controversial some of these issues are within our own nation, ex.  Should the display of the confederate flag be considered hate speech?  Do we agree on climate change?  Are we willing as a nation to agree to international norms or do we prefer to rely on our own system of law?)

Immigration To The United States

M4 Written Assignment: Immigration Immigration has long been a major social issue in the United States, and is often controversial. As a “nation of immigrants”  the United States has long struggled with who should be allowed to enter the nation, what rights they will have while here and how much immigration is desirable, among other issues.  For this paper, please provide a discussion of how immigration has been debated in the United States over the past five years.  Begin by researching the immigration process. How long does it take? What are the time and financial requirements? What is the difference between standard immigration and asylum processes? What groups of potential immigrants are advantaged and what groups are disadvantaged by the process?  Next, identify what arguments have been made by people who support increasing immigration, protecting immigrant rights and safety and/or following current asylum laws? What arguments have been made by people who want to decrease immigration, remove rights from immigrants and who oppose current asylum laws? What challenges might new immigrants face after they are settled? What role does racism and social deviance play in their experience and the overall debate about immigration? Research the topic, using a minimum of three academic sources. Analyze the issue using the information, concepts, and terms that are used in the textbook and content guide readings and videos.   Your analysis should be approximately 5 pages, double-spaced. Remember to cite your references in APA style. Be sure to proofread carefully! For more information on scholarly sources, please review Types of Information Sources; for more information on APA style please review the Online APA Style Guide (OWL).
