Below are the instructions for the assignment. Please make sure to read them carefully and answer all questions. Make sure to include relevant references and in text citations in your writing. Our trial process guarantees that people will not languish in custody indefinitely. Take a look at these resources: New York Criminal Procedure 30.30 New York Criminal Procedure Law Section 30.30 – Speedy trial; time limitations. – New York Attorney Resources – New York Laws (onecle.com) KALIEF BROWDERS LEGACY: THE LIE OF NEW YORKS SPEEDY TRIAL STATUTE Kalief Browders Legacy: The Lie of New Yorks Speedy Trial Statute Columbia Undergraduate Law Review Do you feel that the requirements that you have found in the text are being implemented in NY? Should the types of delays illustrated in the sources be grounds for post conviction relief? What do you think is a reasonable delay? Do you know of or have read any cases that apply here? Be sure to support your position with a very detailed explanation or a source citation.

United States Foreign Policy
U.S. Foreign Policy – Venezuela The foreign policy of the Trump administration is struggling to deal with the ongoing crisis in Venezuela. This country should be a prosperous and economic powerhouse; it has the largest known oil reserves in the world. Unfortunately, Venezuela is in the midst of a horrific economic collapse precipitated by the policies of President Nicolás Maduro and his predecessor, Hugo Chávez. The International Monetary Fund projects Venezuelas rate of inflation will exceed 2,300 percent in 2018. Chavez and Maduro instituted disastrous economic policies that have left many in the country in near starvation. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans have fled to neighboring countries. The U.S. recently placed sanctions on individual Venezuelan officials, with the potential of adding more sanctions if needed. But unless the situation changes in Venezuela, the U.S. may need to prepare for a full-blown revolution. (Links to an external site.) Write our standard 2-5 page college-level essay about United States foreign policy options with respect to Venezuela. What, if anything, should the U.S. do? If you were advising President Trump, what would you recommend? (Remember, this isn’t an essay about Venezuela – it’s an essay about U.S. foreign policy options regarding Venezuela. Don’t spend the whole essay telling your reader about its rich cultural heritage and this year’s banana exports, ok?) Submit in Word. Cite your sources. Community Based Corrections
Instructions In this discussion, students will demonstrate an understanding of the purposes and practices of community-based corrections and intermediate sanctions. Consider the Module 4 readings. In your own words, define the terms community-based corrections and intermediate sanctions, providing examples to support your definitions. Considering the module readings on legislation and future trends related to intermediate sanctions and community corrections, make one prediction about the future of community corrections or intermediate sanctions as correctional strategies in the United States. Provide facts and citations from the readings (and any reliable external resource you may wish to incorporate) to support your discussion. Considering the Module 4 readings on intermediate sanctions and community-based corrections: Identify, research, and discuss in your own words one specific sentence related to intermediate sanctions and community-based corrections. Discuss the purpose(s) of this sentence (punishment, deterrence, rehabilitation, etc.) and how offenders carry out their sentences. Discuss the perceived effectiveness of this sentence with regard to the purpose(s) you stated above. Cite any sources with citations and references. Consider the types of treatment services available to offenders in community-based corrections. Identify, research, and discuss in your own words one specific example of a treatment service available to offenders in community-based corrections. This should be a different example than the one you discussed earlier in the previous step. Cite any sources with citations and references. The Muddiest Point: In two to three sentences, identify one concept or topic from the Module 4 readings that you still have questions about. Continuing the Discussion: Considering the Module 4 textbook readings, create one discussion question related to a topic you found interesting in the readings. Your discussion question should thoughtfully and substantially further the discussion on the module materials (i.e., it should not be able to be answered with a simple “yes” or “no,” or with a simple definition).

It is often stated that the United States does not have two systems of courts (i.e. State and Federal), rather, we have 51, because each State has its own system and then there is the Federal system. Discuss two pros and two cons of our current court system and then detail how having 51 “systems” may impact the idea of equality under the court of law in your opinion. Be sure to use resources to back up your opinion.BookIntroduction to the American Criminal Justice Systemhttps://openoregon.pressbooks.pub/ccj230/
Critical Infrastructure
In 2011, the Southwest experienced a critical power failure. Communities, businesses, and other societal resources went dark. The end result was human and business failure to plan and protect the power grid and stations. This was considered one of the largest power failures in California history. Many restaurants and grocery stores lost revenue due to spoiled food. Many households were impacted as well- schools were closed the next day and some businesses. If youd like to read more on what happened in 2011, you can find that here: https://www.nerc.com/pa/rrm/ea/Pages/September-2011-Southwest-Blackout-Event.aspxFor this requirement, you will be developing a resilience plan. Choose a critical infrastructure incident that impacted an area of our country (whether it was due to a natural disaster, human error, or human attack) to use as supportive evidence of what to do/what not to do, however please avoid writing about big events such as 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, etc. If you need assistance with picking a topic, please let me know.Ready.gov provides information and resources for businesses and communities:https://www.ready.gov/businessKey questions/areas to cover in your paper:Summary of the previous incident1) What was the previous incident (ie.: if a great fire occurred, what happened? who was involved? what kind of disaster was it- natural or human caused?)2) How did the previous incident impact the surrounding communities or greater? What were the critical infrastructure key resources that were impacted?3) What was the resolution/recovery for the incident? Are plans in place to not let it happen again?Protecting a business (your choice) and creating a plan4) After lessons learned, create a plan for continuity/resilience for a business. How would you protect your business from incidents occurring and damaging it?Think of physical (and cyber) features of your business, training employees, and what kind of partnerships should your business be involved with at the local, state, and federal level.Paper requirements:Please use Microsoft Word: 12pt font, Times New Roman, 1-in margins throughout and double-spaced.Paper structure- Title page, abstract, table of contents, main paper, reference page.Page requirements- roughly 6-10 pages or whatever is needed to cover the point (not to include the title page, abstract, ToC, or reference page). It’s ok to have less or go over as long as you make your point directly. You will need to have about 3-5 references minimum (Wikipedia is not a solid reference but an “ok” place to start- more will be explained on this). Please do not write “fluff.” Points will be deducted as well if you do not cite your work. Please avoid plagiarism at all costs. Consult with the instructor if you need help
Data Visualization
Scenario: You work for a community agency that serves juveniles involved with the justice system. You have been tasked with creating a report to share with your community that will build awareness about local juvenile crime and prevention programs. Write a report that consists of the two parts below: Part 1: Data Visualization Research statistics on populations of juvenile delinquents using the Easy Access to Juvenile Populations (EZAPOP) data tool from the National Center for Juvenile Justice. http://www.ncjj.org/ Choose 1 of the following options to investigate: How the totals of one year compare to the totals of another year in your state How your countys totals compare to your states totals How your states totals compare to another states totals How one of the sexes, races, or ethnicity groups compares to another demographic in your area How one age demographic compares to another in your state Create a visual representation of the data that shows a comparison of both groups, such as a chart, graphic image, diagram, or infographic. Do not use a table; select a visually appealing layout that your community would find easy to read and understand. Create an image for your data visualization using an illustration tool in Microsoft® Word or PowerPoint® or use an online drawing tool such as Piktochart® or Smore®. Part 2: Executive Summary Write an executive summary of your findings in 250 to 525 words. In your summary, ensure you: -Explain the data shown in your image. – Summarize what the difference in the numbers means for juvenile crime in your area. -Identify at least 2 diversion, intervention, or prevention programs available to juveniles in your schools or community that might help to influence future trends in the data shown in your image from Part 1. – Include commentary on the efficacy of the different types of programs in your state. -Describe strategies that families, schools, communities, or law enforcement can use to interact with these youth and help to reduce their risk for delinquency.
