Reflecting on a Historic Figure

This is a REACTION paper to the leadership of a historic figure. This is not an information paper. Do not tell me the overall content of your chosen figure’s leadership fundamentals or style. I want the student to REACT (reflectively consider) and engage with the chosen figure’s leadership, perhaps even just a single idea/issue that arises from the study. You may need to introduce/summarize the figure’s leadership, but the majority of the paper should be reflective analysis (using the characteristics regarding the fundamentals of leadership and adaptive leadership). Imagine I asked for your opinion on an issue in class. You should state clearly and concisely what you understand the problem/issue to be, and then give a cogent response. Choose a figure from the following: Alexander the Great, Jesus, Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, Mohammed, Dwight Eisenhower, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, George Washington, Ghengis Khan, Maria Theresa of Austria.

Difference Between Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide

(1) With respect to the war in Bosnia, please discuss the difference between ethnic cleansing and genocide as committed in Srebrenica. How useful is the distinction between these two terms and when did ethnic cleansing turn to genocide? (2) With the help of Kim Allar’s interview with Admiral Lopez, please think about the limits and challenges of Western intervention in Bosnia. One of his main points suggests that such a peacekeeping force needs to be adequately equipped and endowed with a robust mandate. How does that differ from earlier mandates for example for the UN safe zone such as in Srebrenica? (3) Much of the literature on Bosnia (and my introductory lecture) focus on the responsibility of leaders such as Slobodan Miloševi? for inciting violence to expand their own power. Keith Brown’s perspective is different in that he focuses on incidents such as in Vevcani from which public debates ensued that reinforced ethnic stereotypes laying the groundwork for ethnic strife. Please discuss Dr. Brown’s approach and with it the question of where ethnic hatred came from in a country with a high degree of intermarriage and 45 years of peace after WWII.   (4) Please engage Selma Leydesdorff’s work on the Women of Srebrenica to discuss the trauma her interview partners experienced and shared with her. Which emotions result from this trauma, what are the women’s prime motivations in sharing their stories, and how does it impact you, the readers today, to hear these stories?

 Nisei Women’s Softball and Athletics

Who is the author and why should we consider that person an authority on the subject?  This information may be found in the book/article.  It may just take a quick Google search.  If they are deceased, you should still explain why they were an authority. The author’s thesis. Many writers do not state a clear thesis, therefore you may have to figure it out yourself and state it in your own words. Sometimes, there may be three or four main points, not just one.  If you find a statement that stands out to you as the thesis, AVOID PUTTING IT IN DIRECT QUOTES IN YOUR PAPER.  The thesis should be interpreted in your words if at all possible. What is the author’s argument and what information/evidence and sources does he/she use to support that argument?  Make sure to be specific enough that your review explains to your reader what the article/book is about without going into so much detail you re-write the book.  What are the author’s general conclusions? Does the author explain whey they think their work is significant?  Do they explain how it is different/similar to others?
