The museum has decided to display a collection of late-19th-century sporting guides for the public — the same guides we have been examining in our recent modules. Prepare an essay of 750-1000 words about these guides, targeted at museum-goers, to be published in the souvenir program accompanying the exhibition. Fascist Leaders

You choose the one you like and post a response of 125 words or more. You also need to respond to another post from one of your fellow students. This second post should be at least 60 or so words long and should not just agree with or repeat what has been said. Please use an example that has not already been used in the discussionWhat is Fascism? Is it the logical pattern of government that resulted from the Industrial Revolution? What countries fell to Fascist leaders? Why? How did these leaders use art to show and increase their power? How did the movies become such an important part of American culture during this time? Who were some of the people who made this happen? How did the movies become the huge business it became during this time? After WWII, Western art entered a period in which a new sort of art developed. Called “abstract” this form of art is often puzzling to new viewers, yet it says something about both the people who created it and the culture and world that inspired it. What is “abstract art” and why do you think people chose to express themselves this way in the middle of the 20th century? Use one artist who created abstract art and tell us why you think they did that sort of art. What was the Beat Generation? Using two examples of American writers who were “Beat” artists, tell us what their work says about America in the 1940’s and 1950’s.The”Blues”is a uniquely American art form. Using the examples in the document below and any examples you find from the same period, choose one blues artist whose work has influenced another artist of your choice from the Rhythm & Blues or Rock and Roll artists of the 50’s and 60’s. Use one song from each artist and show the influence of the blues artist in the work of the R&B or R&R artist you choose and discuss the influence of the Blues on modern popular music in general.Robert Johnson to Elvis _1_.doc

The Historical Period

Step ONE: Identify the nature of the source material. Which readings are primary or secondary sources? Are they fictional works or do they present any evident bias?Step TWO: Choose TWO READINGS from the assigned documents to perform a compare/contrast analysis. Video material is not acceptable in this assignment. If you choose a primary and a secondary source, then think about how the primary source fits into the narrative/position of the secondary source. If you choose two primary sources, then compare how they represent different viewpoints or perspectives on important issues. If there is only one assigned reading, then extract two meaningful examples instead of comparisons.Step THREE: Draw TWO meaningful comparisons between the two documents that reveals important insight into the historical period/topic of the week. The comparison may be any similarity or difference, but should focus on explaining how it helps historians understand the past. Think about how and why things happened the way they did. Figure out what you think is the most significant SIMILARITY between the two passages.Consider the author’s perspective (national origin, class, ideology etc) for each document.STEP FOUR: If these documents were the source material for your research project, what would your preliminary research question or thesis statement be? This should be no more than two sentences and cover the main idea that you would try to argue.Ex. Using the works of Robespierre and St. Just, this paper will argue that the violence of the French Revolution was created by their interpretation of the needs of the French nation rather than their philosophical beliefs.Be ambitious but with limits. Lay out a provable case that makes a strong a point, regardless of whether you are fully convinced that it is the case. You will be evaluated on the composition and effect of the ideas rather than the perfectness of the answer.Step FIVE: Create one discussion question that you can propose to the class during seminar. It should be a ‘why’ problem that poses an issue for debate rather than demanding a specific factual answer. Ex. ‘Why didn’t Frankenstein name the Creature?” instead of “Did Frankenstein name the Creature?”Do NOT use quotations or paraphrase the document. You may refer to specific passages but do not summarize the document. “ex. Where Thomas Paine talked about hereditary right, he was focused on the legitimacy of an absolute monarchy.” The paper should consist entirely of your own ideas and opinions about the sources using a compare/contrast approach. Therefore, citations should never be required. If you do quote/paraphrase then include citations.

Victim Blaming

What makes Shakespeare’s play a tragedy?Describe some of the elements that you feel make this play a Tragedy? (Give examples from the play, describe some of the “Preventable” events, What causes them to occur?- Don’t tell me the plot! Hint: She drops a handkerchief…what happens? is that preventable? )*Note- Emotions, Communication, and Misunderstandings are not preventable! Do not tell me that “Othello just needed to talk to Desdemona” or that “Iago couldn’t have prevented everything by not doing the following…” these are Hypotheticals, and are not facts. You must look at the events of the play and find the ones that could have been stopped. In the case of the Handkerchief.Do not say that “Desdemona shouldn’t have dropped it, that’s why she’s dead now”One- that’s victim blaming and was a totally accident.Two- Emelia GIVING the handkerchief to her husband is the event. If she didn’t do that, then Iago wouldn’t have been able to see his plot all the way through. Emelia immediately knows that something is wrong the moment this event happens as well (thinking that her husband may show her love again… and he simply doesn’t).Think of this as if it was a court of law. What are the facts? What are the actually events and/or actions that happen that could have been prevente

Provide succinct examples.Q2: In chapter 4, Flores-González discusses her narrators’ assessment of their location on the racial order in the United States.
