Your assignment is to research a real food recipe and describe its origin, diffusion and current consumption patterns. Follow the directions below and write your essay Step 1- Select a recipe that is associated with a particular culture, ethnic, nation, or other type of region. The best candidate is your favorite family recipe that has been passed down through the generations. Step 2- Write the individual ingredients for the recipe in detail (as if from scratch). If you don’t have a copy of the recipe you will need to interview a person that does by phone or e-mail. Step 3- Research on the Internet where the ingredients were originally domesticated. If there are certain ingredients that have not been domesticated, find their natural habitat (shrimp, cranberries, etc.). Research the domestication of animals (cows, chickens, etc.). Step 4- Create (draw/illustrate) a basic map showing the diffusion of the ingredients into your recipe region. Print a blank world map of the Internet. Step 5- Write a 1–2 page analysis of your research, including how your region’s food has been influenced by diffusion/ migration (the Old Silk Road or Columbian Exchange). Discuss the climate and land use of the region where your ethnic dish is from.

Read the section on “Yosemite State and National Park” (pages 28-34) in the article “Fifteen Events that Shaped California’s Human Landscape.” View the video documentary “Yosemite National Park Documentary” by National Parks and Nature.   This paper should integrate the material you learned from the article and documentary about the natural and human landscape of the Yosemite region. Be sure to emphasize the different types of landforms (e.g., mountains, valleys, rivers, etc.) in the Yosemite region, including the geologic and geomorphic processes responsible for their formation. It’s go geology. It’s kind of a role play essay in a sense. We’re writing a letter to the president about hurricane katrina. I have the instructions. For the purpose of this assignment, assume that you are a geologist and the Science Advisor to the President of the United States. It is August 30, 2005 and Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Louisiana yesterday and the President just asked you for a position paper on New Orleans and the surrounding area and what the long term response of the Government of the United States should be to this disaster. As the Science Advisor to the President, it is your job to provide the best obtainable science based recommendations to the President. That does not include “it feels good” advice or “it is the right thing to do” recommendations, unless one or both are the same as the best scientific recommendations. He has other advisors that provide the other types of recommendations. It is your job, along with the other advisors, to make sure the President is fully informed on an issue before he makes any decisions pertaining to that issue. For this term paper, you will demonstrate your understanding of material from throughout the course by presenting the development for a western city. The city you present can be any city in the western culture, except New York City or Los Angeles. It can be your hometown, a city you have visited often, or simply a city that is interesting to you. This term paper is intended to test your ability to think independently and apply your knowledge of general course concepts to a specific case. As such, the guidelines for this paper are fairly broad. Has to include introduction- general information about the Rocky Mountains but have to present it in a geological way. A geology portion that discusses the geology of the mountain (Rock Types, Stratigraphy) shows which rock unit is older and which is younger. Tectonic History of the rocky mountain- how the mountain was formed in different geological time period. and mineral resources in rocky mountains.

What is the “unifying theory of geology?” Why is it called a “unifying” theory? Describe, in your own words, how it explains the existence of mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Be specific about each of these three items, including the different types of plate movements and/or plate boundaries associated with them. Give a real-life example of a landform that exists at each of the three types of plate boundaries. Finally, briefly summarize the story of Alfred Wegener as told in the video in this module.
