It’s for my Fashion class Guidelines for the paper: For your examination and analysis of dress codes, you must do the following: (1) Select the environment within which you want to conduct your investigation from among the following: the workplace as an employee, educational environment as a student, religious setting as either an employee or a follower, business establishment as a patron, community environment as member of a town or city (2) Examine the facts as they are today surrounding dress codes IN GENERAL within your selected environment.  You are NOT to be specific about the particular school, workplace, company, or religious setting.  You must gather a wide range of information and evaluate and analyze all of the info to put together a comprehensive document.   You can seek out research studies from journals and books, anecdotal information from newspapers and magazines, first-hand information from personal interviews, and explicit written dress code regulations from organizational documents.  Much information can be found through online access to the TWU library and elsewhere through general Internet access.  As you obtain information, questions that could be considered include the following: Are dress codes stated or unstated, explicit or implicit What specific dress codes are in place How long dress codes have been in place How dress codes are communicated Why dress codes are required Advantages and disadvantages of dress codes within that environment Consequences for dress code noncompliance upon the violator Anxieties within the group members upon dress code noncompliance Results of dress code compliance and noncompliance Overall, the written research report for this assignment should document all of the gathered information in a well-organized manner.  Complete your paper in such a way that your finished document could be used to educate others about the type of dress code that you have chosen to investigate.  Be thorough and to the point.  Please note that you are being asked to conduct research and this assignment is described as a “written research report.”  If you do not conduct any research but, rather, just provide personal anecdotal information or well-known generalities, you will have completed the assignment incorrectly and your grade will reflect that error.      The written report should be constructed in text form rather than outline form and should NOT be written in the first person or second-person point of view (if you do not know what that means, look it up!).  Write in a report-writing style, using the third person point of view only when needed.   Be sure to have a title, an introductory paragraph, headings, and subheadings.  Please limit the text of the paper to 10 pages in length (do not ask me – figure out what “limit” means), excluding the cover sheet and reference list.  The assignment is to be typed, double-spaced, with a standard 12-point font size and 1” margins.  A cover sheet listing the student’s name and the date submitted should be attached to the front of the completed assignment.

In this unit we are considering again the idea of why and how we construct societies. Martha Nussbaum reintroduces us to the social contract theory and adds her own additional insight. She asks us to recognize that we all have different abilities and ways in which we can be contributing members of society. Yet, cultivating this reality is challenging for us and requires some changes to what it means to contribute. Too, how, specifically, do we create a society where everyone is truly valued? In this case, you are role-playing by taking the perspective of Nussbaum which means you need to provide more details about how she expands our ideas of what is flourishing for all.

Here is some background on the assignments followed by the Instructions. Both sides must be willing to live with the fact that it is rare to have total agreement on issues and compromise is a natural part of progress. You may have to give something up.  Keep in mind, however,  that the common ground section is the section where you, the writer, pivot from looking at both sides in the ethical debate section to leaning into one side of the argument more persuasively, based on good reasoning of course.  You want to come to an agreement yes, but you also want to make the argument for why your perspective is better. The goal is to address the opposing viewpoint’s flawed ethical underpinnings, while maintaining respect for their perspective.   INSTRUCTIONS The Value of Common Ground State – simply and clearly – the value of finding common ground for this problem. How will both sides benefit, if we find common ground? Show Your Opponent that You Hear Them Describe what the opposing side cares most deeply about. Where is the line in the sand? What should this side be willing to give up? Address the ethical view that underlies this side of the issue. Gently, describe the main reason why this argument is flawed by identifying its weakness. Articulate Your Own Side Clearly Describe what your side cares most about deeply. What is the non-negotiable item? What would your side willing to give up. What is the ethical value that serves as the foundation of this side? On what grounds is your side stronger? Why does this make your side stronger? Ethical Persuasion Address, in more detail, why the opposing argument’s ethical underpinnings may be flawed and need a rethinking and why your side has the stronger ethical argument. Find the Point of Change Explain the common ground. In other words, in what area, do both sides agree, or at least have room to give something up in a compromise or come together to gain something, in the form of a solution? Transition Briefly transition to the the conclusion, where the compromise or solution will be described in more detail.

Ethics and Social Responsibility Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and is due on Sunday. By Tuesday, you should respond to two additional posts from your peers. This week you have learned about how what influences ethical decision making and what makes an organization socially responsible. To demonstrate business ethics and the strategic importance of social responsibility, this week’s discussion forum will involve researching an article using one of the following sources: Forbes (www.forbes.com) Harvard Business Review- (www.hbr.org) Your task is to choose a current article (published in last 60 days) from one of the above-listed sources that related to social responsibility. Heinz Steals the Drug In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to make. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman’s husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $ 1,000 which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: “No, I discovered the drug and I’m going to make money from it.” So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man’s store to steal the drug-for his wife. Should the husband have done that? (Kohlberg, 1963, p. 19) Simple assignment: Should Heinz steal or not? Write an essay… okay, so we have another deception in plain sight and it’s not simple. This is a test of self. Whether they realize it or not, managers make many decisions every day that can directly or indirectly impact their customers, employees, stakeholders, shareholders, and the company’s reputation. When making these decisions, managers need to be aware of the legal and ethical implications their decisions may have on others. Some decisions have an obvious impact, such as bribing a government official to secure a contract or falsifying financial documents to make the company appear to be more profitable to shareholders. Other decisions are less obvious, such as hiring one person over another simply based on a ‘gut feeling’ or ignoring a problem on the team in the hopes that it will work itself out. For this assignment, you will examine a real-life ethical dilemma managers have faced in the past. Please write a 1,500 to 2,000-word paper that addresses one of the following dilemmas. In 2015, Volkswagen was caught in violation of United States’ emissions standards for vehicles. The automaker designed programming that would allow their vehicles to pass laboratory emissions tests, when in reality, their vehicles were emitting up to 40 times the legal emissions limits. Examine the company’s decision to engage in these practices and what the fallout for the company was after the practice was discovered. In early 2017, the ride-sharing company Uber faced several scandals. Examine what decisions the company made that led to these issues, and analyze and evaluate how Uber responded to them. For the situation, please address the following: Discuss the decision-making process employed by management to address the ethical dilemma, if it was in fact addressed. Show how management decisions impacted employees, leaders, stakeholders, and shareholders of the organization Explain the public relations and media strategy the organization used to address the ethical dilemma. Please include a mix of both primary and secondary sources, with at least one source from a scholarly peer-reviewed journal.
