The paper needs to discuss Peter Singer’s arguments. The paper should be a standard five paragraph argumentative essay(no more and no less than five paragraphs), which means an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The thesis statement requirement: the last sentence of the introduction should be the complete thesis statement that clearly states your point of view. The topic sentence requirement: the first sentence of each body paragraph should act as a topic sentence and state the philosophical idea being analyzed. The paper should be organized in the following way: First paragraph: background and introductory material, any terms that need to be defined, and thesis statement Second paragraph: first argument in support of the claim in the thesis statement Third paragraph: second argument in support of the claim in the thesis statement Fourth paragraph: an articulation of a contrary point of view immediately followed by the student’s careful and thorough rebuttal. Assignment Overview Some people say that our government is snooping into our business daily. The USA Patriot Act and domestic surveillance (such as monitoring of emails and phone calls) have become controversial among the American public, sparking concerns over privacy and related issues. The USA Patriot Act and other federal laws permit law enforcement and intelligence agencies some leeway in domestic surveillance. Leaks by former National Security Agency (NSA) worker Edward Snowden revealed an extensive program of surveillance by the NSA and the intelligence community. Public outcry has resulted in open and closed hearings before Congress as well as many lawsuits and other legal actions by private citizens and organizations. There is a need for some measure of surveillance to protect citizens from terrorist attacks; however, these measures are difficult to define and often secret. Examining this controversial issue is an important part of understanding the foundations of Homeland Security. Case Assignment After studying the required readings and other sources: Briefly discuss your opinion of the legal and ethical role of DHS and its component agencies in the domestic surveillance of U.S. citizens. Remember to cover such areas as privacy, surveillance, and treatment of citizens. Google your state’s Homeland Security Plan. For example, enter (Name of your state) Homeland Security Plan, and note any language relating to safety and privacy of citizens. Assignment Expectations Length: This Case Assignment should be 3-5 pages, not counting the title page and references. References: At least two references should be included from academic sources (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles). Required readings are included. You are expected to use both textbooks as well as outside academic sources to support your analysis and argument. As you write your thread, consider the following steps:   If you are a Christian, formulate an application to this issue based on a Christian ethical theory. If you are not a Christian, you may formulate an application based on whatever ethical theory you think is strongest (i.e. the theory you defended in DB 2). Briefly describe a strong counterargument to your own position and respond to it. For now, keep it brief (no more than one paragraph). In the Capstone Essay, you will have more room to elaborate.   You are expected to cite at least one academic source in your DB threads and replies. These sources would include the course textbooks, books, journal articles, periodicals, and similar publications. Sources such as Wikipedia and online dictionaries do not count as academic sources and should not be used. Biblical references are encouraged, but will not count as an academic source.

Instructions Review the following ethical dilemmas: John Doe has decided to clone himself. He is sterile. He cannot find anyone to marry him. He wishes to have children. He knows that he will not be able to love a child that is adopted or not connected directly to him biologically. He will be making use of a new procedure that involves taking his skin cells to produce a twin. The twin starts out as an embryo and grows into a child. The child in this case will have the same genetic information as John Doe. John Doe and his child will be twins. Jane Doe is eighteen. For as long as she can remember she has been sexually attracted to other females. Her parents belong to a religion that has a religious text stating that God forbids one to be a lesbian. This religion goes on further to say that lesbians will be punished in the afterlife. Jane Doe is debating whether she should tell her parents about her sexual attraction. She has not yet decided if she should come out to her parents and live as a lesbian now that she is a legal adult. Joe and Mary are a couple. Before becoming sterile, they had a child. This child died of a rare disease. Joe and Mary miss their child terribly. They have heard that there is a new IVF procedure that can ensure that they can have another child. However, their religion forbids using IVF.
