Cosmos “The Clean Room” features the environmental history of lead pollution, its consequences, and its regulation.  (Lead contamination is mentioned in your textbook on p166 and p355-356).  If we were on campus, we would watch this film in class.  This semester, it will be streamed in a Canvas conference as listed in the syllabus, and the session will be recorded for those who are not available during class time that day.  This is not just an opportunity to earn points…  It is also excellent practice for the open-ended “synthesize concepts from the course” type essay questions that will appear on exams.  Be sure to look over the rubric so you know what is expected, before you turn in your response.  Throughout this course, an important goal is learning to view everyday events (interpretation of history, news headlines, politics, careers, driving to school or work, deciding what’s for dinner) through the lens of environmental science.  Drawing upon examples from Cosmos “The Clean Room” to illustrate your argument, discuss the intersection of at least three of the following:  science, politics, the economy, the legal system, and environmental issues.  Your essay should be one paragraph (minimum) or two paragraphs (maximum).  It should be 1) your original work, 2) well organized, and 3) detailed enough to demonstrate you have watched the film and thought deeply about it.  Note:  within the Canvas system, a digital plagiarism check will be conducted to discourage sharing of essays within and across semesters.  Remember that you are bound by the UTA honor code; do not borrow the work of another student or share your own.
