[SOLVED] News Story Comparison

The purpose of this assignment is to compare the coverage of a major news story in three different media outlets. Start by choosing a story that is in the news on ONE day. Be specific.  These days, there is only one story, so don’t give a general comparison on how the coronavirus is being covered. Instead, choose something like the coverage of President Trump’s news conference, or an action being taken by a mayor or a governor.  Then analyze how the story is covered by choosing one representative of EACH category below: 1) A major newspaper.  Good choices would be the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, or the Los Angeles Times. 2) A television program.  This could either be a newscast by CNN or one of the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, or FOX).  Or it could be a nightly cable news program on, for example, MSNBC (e.g. The Rachel Maddow Show) or Fox (e.g. Sean Hannity) 3) A non-traditional outlet.  This could be a blog or a news aggregator. Examples include the Huffington Post, the Drudge Report, or Buzzfeed. analysis comparing the coverage. Do they all agree on the facts? Do they all include the same facts? What language do they use to describe the event? Does the language used or the emphasis on different fact show any bias in the coverage? 1) site the sources

[SOLVED] The Canterbury Tales

Directions: The textual analysis asks you to work with Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales and develop a critical argument in which you directly engage the text.  You will need to rely on the words of the text to support your argument, and you will need to think about the writing strategies that Chaucer uses.  Remember that you are not just summarizing content; you are analyzing structure and technique.  Be sure that you have a clear and definable thesis; that you support it with adequate evidence in the form of direct quotations; that you structure your argument effectively and employ transitions; that you consider the needs of your audience, and that you create a title.     You do NOT need to do research for this essay, and you should rely on your own thoughts.  The question has a creative component, but you must also be sure to present your imaginative response in the frame of a formal analysis of Chaucer’s text.    4 pages/1000 words:  The critical analysis should be at least 3 pages;  The creative response should be at least 1 page.        The Portrayal of Women in the Stories     CRITICAL ANALYSIS: In many of the tales we read, the characters’ stories present telling insights on gender dynamics.  In your opinion, what does The Canterbury Tales suggest about the medieval perspective of  women?  Do you think that the depiction of women is traditional or innovative? Choose ONE or TWO of the following characters to discuss: Hippolyta, Emily (“The Knight’s Tale”); Alison (“The Miller’s Tale); the Queen, the Magical Hag Wife (“The Wife of Bath’s Tale”), or the lost child’s mother (“The Prioress’s Tale).     CREATIVE COMPONENT:  Apply similar insights about female character: do a dramatic monologue from the perspective of Hippolyta (“The Knight’s Tale”), Alison (“The Miller’s Tale); the Queen or The Magical Hag Wife (“The Wife of Bath’s Tale”), or the lost child’s mother (“The Prioress’s Tale”).  Be sure that your narrative shows your knowledge of Chaucer’s characterization.  *Note that once this paper is submitted I will likely need revision a day or two later based on feedback.  Thanks!

[SOLVED] Age of Great Dreams American Vietnam

Looking back half a century, it is reasonable to suggest that America’s involvement in the war in Vietnam proved unsuccessful and unnecessary and that the failures of the attempt to thwart the spread of Communism have now left a noticeable bruise on our nation’s history. However, during the 1960s, before outright involvement in militarized support (both forced and voluntary) of South Vietnam, there grew a large split between those in favor of the war and those who opposed it. Two of the country’s most influential figures, President Lyndon Johnson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., used their persuasive power of speech to gain support for battle (LBJ) or suggest an alternative method of peace (MLK) in Vietnam. After reading/listening to LBJ’s “Speech on Vietnam” and MLK’s “Beyond Vietnam,” determine which speech is more persuasive in arguing FOR or AGAINST America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Keep in mind the context of which you are writing; do not immediately determine your position based on historical knowledge alone. You are writing from the position of knowledge from 1967; therefore, your position should be the THIRD PERSON, as well as from that time period (after these speeches). Consider the following questions as you develop your position: What sorts of rhetorical strategies did Johnson and King use to make their argument (logos, pathos, ethos)? How does Johnson explain the necessity of America’s involvement in Vietnam? What is Johnson’s position on Vietnam as a country and why is it necessary for America to “fix” it? How does King view the problems at home (in America) versus the problems in Vietnam? Does King believe the Vietnamese have the right to follow communism? Why? Other than The Age of Great Dreams, no outside sources can be used. This essay must be typed in MLA format, 1200-words MINIMUM, and turned in online to Canvas. You will submit rough drafts to Canvas by the above-listed date, then complete the peer-review workshop by the above-listed date. You will need to provide a word count at the end of your final draft, as well as a Works Cited page.

[SOLVED] Breaking Good Stereotypes

Write an essay in which you examine the impact of supposedly “good” stereotypes on individuals and groups. Locate a representation of a stereotype that is being viewed as positive and analyze how the stereotype impacts the individuals who are seen–or see themselves as–part of this group, as well as what this stereotype means for the broader place of this group in society. Apply Yang’s essay as a lens in order to consider the implications of stereotypes on individuals and groups.  Your essay should depend primarily on specific details from your selected outside source as well as the assigned reading by Yang. Your selected example could be a video, song, television show, movie, article, blog, or something else. It needs to be a rich enough source (enough details to talk about) to support a sustained analysis. Closely analyze your source to determine what stereotype is being represented, how it’s being represented as positive, and why. Consider how this representation impacts or responds to people who are part of this group, including supposed positive implications of the stereotypes as well as its negative impacts.  You will apply Yang’s reading as a “lens” to assist you in your analysis, making connections through the use of quotes that help you consider stereotypes and their implications.

[SOLVED] Analytical Paper Rose for Emily

You will write the rough draft (first two pages and works cited page) of your research paper. In order to complete this, you first need to decide if you are going to turn your analytical paper 1 or analytical paper 2 into the research paper. You may wish to write on your first analytical paper, as you have already received feedback. I would select the paper (Analytical Paper 1 or 2) that you are more comfortable with and the paper which you can find secondary sources to support your ideas. Your secondary sources must come from the MGCCC databases. In order to locate your sources, you will have to login into the MGCCC databases from the college library page. Then, click find articles. After clicking find articles, click English Literature and then scroll down to Academic Search Complete (Ebsco) The login credentials are magn0122 and learn2! Once you reach the search page, click the box “Full-text” and “Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals” under “Limit your Results” Make sure a check mark appears in each of these boxes. After doing so, you can just key in your search terms and locate the pdf’s or full-texts of the articles. These databases will actually cite your sources for you; you will see a “Cite” button/link on the right-hand side of the page. In other words, all you have to do is to copy and paste that citation into your works cited page (when you copy your citation from the database, right-click using your mouse, and then, click keep text only when you paste that citation into your Word document. After doing so, please format your citation correctly, which is MLA documentation style. Your works cited page should have four secondary sources, and you should cite the short story or poems on the works cited page as well. To cite your textbook, enter the following information: Last name, First name. “Title of Short Story or Poems.” Title of Anthology. Ed. Editor’s Name(s). Edition. City of Publication:Publisher, Year. Page range of entry. Print. You must include your four secondary/research sources from the MGCCC as well as your textbook source (format above) on your works cited page. A sample works cited page is located at the end of the annotated research paper.Preview the document You have already written your argument, so you are basically adding a secondary source to each body paragraph. This quotation or paraphrase from a secondary source must come after you analyze the quotation from the literary work. After you provide the quotation/citation from the secondary source, you must analyze that quotation and its significance. You may have to rewrite and rework some of your argument. Each body paragraph must contain a quotation from the text, which you should already have. You will analyze that quotation (should already be done). Then, in you will add your quotation from your secondary source and cite it. After you insert the quotation from your secondary source, you will analyze that quotation. That’ s it!!!! For the most part, you have a large portion of the research paper done. Don’t forget you must include your works cited page as the last page of your research paper, and it must be formatted according to MLA. I have uploaded a sample Annotated research paperPreview the document that includes a works cited page, so you can see a sample research paper. We did not talk about the “So what/who cares” aspect of the introduction, so omit it. Instead, make sure you have 4-6 sentences in your introduction with your thesis as the last sentence of your introduction. Also, with regard to the sample paper, I have color-coded the citations, so you can see how the in-text citations match up with the works cited page. Whatever you put in the parenthetical citation must match the first word of that corresponding entry on the works cited page. The citation you see for the textbook actually refers to the old edition of our textbook, so you don’t want to copy that information, as it is outdated. Your word limit for your complete research paper is 1250-1750, excluding the works cited page. For the first two pages due Monday, you are expected to have two full pages of text complete, as well as your works cited page containing five sources. To recap, you are submitting a document that contains the first two pages of your research paper, and then the third page will consist of your works cited page
