What are your thoughts about action research in your school? Would the faculty be onboard with it? How would you discuss action research with a teacher who was leery of becoming involved in the research intervention plan? Reflect for a few moments on a change effort at a school which you are familiar that failed, and then reflect for a few moments on a change effort that succeeded. What were the differences between the two change efforts that led one of them to fail and the other one to succeed?

Understanding your own leadership skills are important, but understanding your own limitations are equally important. Given your analysis of your own leadership skills, you must now determine which complimentary skills are needed for developing a strategic plan and crisis response. Week 3 Activities This week you will be responsible for persuading key stakeholders about the importance of a critical issue for Special Education. After reading through the brief articles found in the Course Content folder, choose a topic of interest. You may not choose teacher shortages or disproportionality that were discussed last week. If you have an idea other than what you read in the Course Content folder, you must email me for approval. Once you have chosen your topic, you will have two options. The first option is to write a persuasive essay. The second option is to create one side of a debate. More information on the requirements for each of these is below. Persuasive Essay: For the persuasive essay you will be required to write a 2-3 page essay that includes at least 3 references. Reflection Papers: 20% (20 points=Two at 10 points each) Each student is required to submit two reflection papers over the course of the semester. Each reflection paper should be 3-5 pages in length and double-spaced. The purpose of these papers is to, as the name suggests, reflect on issues, themes, insights you have identified, gained, and/or become sensitive to as a result of the reading assignments and online discussions. These papers should also serve as a venue in which to raise questions, concerns, and suggestions for future research. The topic of your reflection papers may be stimulated by something you have read, observed, and or heard both inside and outside of the class. The format of the reflection papers should be as follows: (1) identify the stimulus; (2) discuss the main issues of the stimulus that will be discussed; (3) describe your reaction to the stimulus; and (4) describe how the stimulus has impacted you. The intent is for you to critically examine the issues of the course and see how they complement, contradict, or expand your current thinking. These papers should be written using APA 7th edition format and include a title page, body and reference page. Although they are reflection papers, cite sources appropriately.
