Leadership models are guides to specific leadership mindsets and behaviors. Each model approaches specific environments or situations differently. Understanding and applying these models allows student affairs professionals to become effective and efficient leaders in a variety of circumstances. What is the Philosophy of Teaching? Why do teachers teach?  What is the definition of a great teacher?  What is believed about teaching and learning?  How can courses be made interesting for adult students?  What are short-term and long-term goals with regard to improving teaching?

During Module/Week 3 of the course, the student selected 1 of the major social or political aspects of higher education that is addressed in this course to focus on for this assignment. One of the important characteristics of higher education faculty, staff, and administrators is the ability to approach an issue from a balanced viewpoint using information that relates to multiple sides of the issue. To that end, this assignment is designed to help students prepare as if they were presenting, either orally or in writing, about 1 of the social or political aspects facing higher education institutions. The structure of this paper is similar to that of a debate.

Chapter 19 discussed different risk factors related to youth problem behavior at different parts of the social structure (Table 19.1). Choose two of these risk factors and provide a summary of each (Family level of poor parental oversight and conflicting or remiss control).  Using the two risk factors identified above, create a strengths-based intervention or strategy that could be implemented to increase resilience. Provide a brief summary and explanation of each intervention or strategy. Consider the risk factors you identified above in terms of public policy.
