Sex Education in Schools
Read pages 371 – 373 in your text. People have vastly different opinions on the role and responsibility of schools to provide sex education. Teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases are real problems facing our adolescent population. In some cases, the decision to engage in a sexual relationship is a life or death decision. References: Coon, D., Mitterer, J.O., & Martini, T. (2019). Introduction to psychology: Gateways to mind and behavior (15th ed.). Belmont, CA: Cengage Learning. For this weeks main post, answer the following questions. Be sure to include factual, properly cited information in your post. To what extent should the schools be responsible for teaching sex education? To what extent should sex education be left to parents? Who should handle education about STDs? Please respect opinions that differ from yours. You may disagree, but your reasons need to be clearly stated and respectful, not judgmental or demeaning.
Economics Essay
Assignment: Module 1 discusses some very important economic principles that you should remember and use the rest of the semester. These principles help explain some very important concepts in Economics. One of the principles is that people respond to incentive. Some assumptions in Economics are that people will make decisions strategically, human behavior is not random and people adjust at the margin. Another principle in Economics is scarcity. We live in a world of scarcity. People have unlimited wants but the resources available to them are limited. For any decision we make there is an opportunity cost. Consider everything you read in Module 1. Answer the following questions in a short essay (approximately 600 words or more – no less). What kind of incentive do you have to get a degree? What do you need to do to get a good grade and what is the opportunity cost? Do you need good grades? Why do we need jobs? What incentive do you think people receive from jobs? What kind of objectives are people with jobs trying to achieve? Also, making decisions implies having an opportunity cost. What must these people give up in order to get/keep a job? Making the decision of getting a job requires trading off goals. What kind of trade off do they face? Be aware that plagiarism (copying from other papers, Wikipedia, books, articles, and any source that is not your own original work) will result in a zero. However, I encourage you to research and properly cite credible sources to support your paper. I am expecting that this essay follows the standard format of Intro, Detail and Summary. Remember, when expressing your opinion, it should be supported by fact and using the text as a source is perfectly fine.
Journal Critique
The Journal Article Critique Why is philosophy critical? It is your identity. Do not settle for lives without any sense of purpose. With an educational philosophy, you will discover what is important to you Locate three (1 for this order) journal articles to help you further explore philosophies. Articles should be scholarly. Scholarly articles should have most of the following characteristics: Does a scholar write it? Does the author have an advanced degree? (This is not always the case.) Who is the intended audience? Is the purpose of the article to provide research or understanding about a topic? How is it structured? Look at the length, format, headings/sections How is it written? Is the language formal and technical, peer-reviewed? A scholarly, peer-reviewed article will have an objective point of view and a logical, argumentative tone with many citations to published research that supports its claim. What is the publication type? Look for clues that tell you the article is published inside an academic/scholarly journal. Components of a journal article critique: Summary of the article’s major points Critique of the literature review and theoretical framework Critique of the study design and methods Critique of the results and discussion Evidence of critical thinking Conclusion Use textbook as a reference: Knowles, M.S., Holton, E.F., III, & Swanson, R.A. Discipline Of Students With Disabilities
Important policies, guidelines, and procedures are mandated concerning the discipline of students who receive special education services. The staff, parents, district and campus administration, and related service providers may all be involved in the decision making process regarding consequences for actions that may be related to the disability. There are procedural processes involved in determining the following: manifestation hearings, the need to conduct a functional behavioral assessment (FBA), and the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIP). IEP team members must also document decisions regarding suspension, expulsion, or a need for a change of placement. Administrators, lead teachers, and other key special education staff are responsible for implementing the policies and disciplinary regulations. Failure to comply with these important regulations can place these individuals and the district in a liable situation. Allocate at least 2 hours in the field to support this field experience. Interview two of the following: assistant principal and administrator Discuss the role in which the interviewee plays regarding the following: In your role, what types of discipline issues have you found to be the most common with students with disabilities? In regards to IDEA, what is your responsibility regarding the discipline components for students identified as receiving special education services? How do you play a role with in-school suspension versus out-of-school suspension for students who receive special education services? How are you involved in the decision making process regarding the discipline of students with disabilities? What types of data do you collect regarding behavior/discipline issues of students with disabilities? If you do not collect the data, do you review the data to assist with any discipline issues? How are special education services provided to students with disabilities who are suspended, if needed? Does your role have responsibilities in determining or providing these services or ensuring these services are met? What other additional insight can you offer in the areas of due process, discipline, and student/family rights related to your role and responsibilities? In 250-500 words, summarize your interviews and reflect upon professional practices related to legal and ethical discipline for students with disabilities. Discuss the similarities and differences of roles and responsibilities based on your feedback from the interviews. In addition, provide any additional insight the interviewees provided you might not have realized until now. Explain how you will use your findings in your future professional practice.
Economic Justice And Education
In the United States, good higher education is the statistical gateway to financial success and sociopolitical status. While access to good higher education resources is open to all, positions are limited, and some clearly have competitive advantage over others. Parents with the resources can send their children to better funded schools (public or private) with smaller classes, better teachers and counselors, more opportunities for personal development, and ambitious peers. They can hire tutors to help motivate their children to work through educational challenges, send them to SAT prep courses, find them helpful internships with paid placement services, and so on. In addition, such parents are far more likely to be educated themselves and be in position to use personal connections to provide their children with work opportunities that make their child more competitive. QUESTION (100 PTS): Is our system of education economically just as it is, or does justice demand that it be changed in some way(s)? (i) Utilitarianism, Egalitarianism, Libertarianism and Rawlsianism each present a vision of what they believe amounts to a just economy. Explain each vision and its consequences for the state of higher education. Remember that all policies have costs, some financial (e.g. taxes) others non-financial (e.g. opportunity or freedom) (ii) Which of these principled positions do you find the most convincing and why? What makes it superior to the others?
