Identify two discreet policy developments in education that have taken place in the last 35 years in Britain and which have had a significant impact.  Explain why each of these particular policies was introduced, in what ways they were considered controversial, and the ways in which education has changed as a consequence.   In addition you must comment on the extent that these particular developments can be considered as enduring trends and patterns. Consider who has the time and is appropriately situated to take on these responsibilities, but also consider who is most capable of keeping the objective of meeting the needs of diverse learners at the forefront of the planning and implementation. If it is not clear why an individual is assigned to a certain task, be sure to include an explanation. A list of who should be consulted or informed about the project and its findings. In referring to individuals, do not use names, but refer to the position they hold in relation to the plan, such as PTA Chair, ESL Lead Teacher, et cetera. A rationale justifying why giving awareness to these individuals is relevant and important to the goals of your project. Note: Be sure to include parents and community members. A description of who will monitor the progress, document the effects of implementation, and gather any data that is acquired. A timeline of the actions to be taken and the monitoring steps. A list of resources needed to carry out the action plan and a rationale for their inclusion. Consider the resources that may be needed within your school and district as well as resources that may be needed from the community. You will also want to think about resources for training and supporting teachers in the classroom.

During your second literacy course, you completed a case study of your work with an individual child. Now you will reflect on this case study in a five-page paper, in which you will respond to the following questions: How did studying an individual child help you to better understand some problems of the struggling reader? How will this understanding influence your future practices as a teacher? How did your project help you find new strategies to implement as a teacher? How did it aid you in finding new resources to use as a teacher of literacy, particularly for students with reading problems? How did studying an individual child in depth better enhance your teaching? How has conducting this case study helped you to avoid grouping all struggling readers in a “one size fits all” box, and how has it influenced your thinking on the need for differentiated instruction? How did your course work at Touro College prepare you to effectively conduct and write up this case study? What would you do differently in conducting and writing up your case study now that you have completed it and have been reflecting on the work you did? Please do not include your actual case study in your Culminating Project. You only need to include the reflection paper on your case.

Uniquely Human- Written Reflection:  Students are required to read the text Uniquely Human by Barry Prizant.  Students will complete a written reflection answering the following questions: How are persons with Autism uniquely human? How does the text change your thinking about Autism? How does this information apply to persons with other disabilities? How does the text inform the ways in which you will interact with families? Why is US public education so expensive compared to other countries yet the resulting scores of students aren’t high amongst other developed countries?   1. For example, leaders have been described as scouts—those who go out ahead of the rest to show the way. Other terms used to describe leaders are architect, catalyst, advocate, prophet, mediator, and coach.
