On page 50 of Chapter 2, there is an interesting discussion concerning victimization trends over time. I have attached the chapter 2 to this file It seems as if much of the public tends to believe we are living in more dangerous times, but yet the results do not seems to indicate that. Why do you believe the perception is different than the reality? What might account for the differences in what people believe and what these charts seem to say?

On March 12, 2014, at approximately 2200 hours, the Sunnyville, Utah Police Department received a 911 call of an armed robbery at 201 SE 2nd Ave. Upon the police arriving on scene, Victim 1, Luke Roberts, had been shot in the head and deceased. Victim 2, Liam O’Neil, was pistol-whipped. Both victims were robbed of their cell phones and wallets at gunpoint. Liam O’Neil was able to identify both suspects and the getaway vehicle. A short distance away, police stopped the suspect vehicle with two Caucasian males that matched the description provided by Mr. O’Neil. After the two suspects were positively identified, they were arrested and brought to the police station for interviews. Before the police interviewed the suspects, they read them their Miranda rights. Suspect 1 refused to speak to the police, invoked his Miranda rights, and stated that he wanted a lawyer. The police began asking Suspect 2 specific questions about the crime. Suspect 2 stated “I’m not sure I should talk to you,” but then hesitantly proceeded to answers questions, making several incriminating statements. Review the Miranda v. Arizona case using the Web resources assigned to this class. What legal aspects from the scenario need to be addressed? What legal aspects may come up at the trial? Is his statement of “I am not sure if I want to talk anymore” enough to invoke his Miranda Rights? If not, what must the police officer do next?

Imagine you are a consultant who was hired to research, analyze, and present a report to the police chief and mayor of a major U.S. city of your choice. Your presentation must identify the city you selected and two contemporary criminal justice policies or procedures that are challenging that city. For each policy or procedure, provide evidence-based solutions to each, including a visual representation of quantitative data relevant to each. Some examples of policies and procedures you might select include sanctuary cities and immigration enforcement, police body cameras, anti?terrorism, public shooters, response to civil unrest and criminal prosecution of police officers. A brief (no more than 1 paragraph) introduction of two contemporary criminal justice policies or procedures that are challenging that city. Be sure to indicate the city. An explanation of why the policies or procedures are challenging the city, referencing 2–3 credible resources. A proposed evidence-based solution for each policy or practice that is challenging the city (each solution should be at least 1 page each). A visual representation of quantitative data relevant to each solution, to demonstrate its prior success.

Constructing and defending a policy paper is an appropriate way to test your comprehension of the subject matter. Thus, rather than taking a final examination for this course, you will demonstrate your grasp of the topics through a policy paper. Please choose a terrorist organization to analyze and prepare a proposed solution to this organization’s terrorist actions.  This paper must include a brief history, goals, and methods of a terrorist group, and a proposed solution to that group’s terrorism, and to show capability in researching and presenting findings and proposals in a logical and coherent manner.  Topic Selection: kata’ib hezbollah. Original thesis (can be changed): Political discourse with international influence is not plausible with this terrorist organization because of its nationalist view of Iraq; however, allowing Kata’ib Hezbollah to sit in Iraqi politics will help prevent future terrorist actions. The final paper must contain an abstract, 10-12 full pages of content, double-spaced, with standard 1inch margins and 12-point standard font and bibliography.  You must use APA style for citations.  All papers must use a minimum of five primary and five secondary sources.  You may use the sources assigned for this course, but you may only count two of them toward the minimum sources for your project.  At least two of your secondary sources must be academic journal articles.  Your paper should have a minimum of 10 sources, five primary and five secondary sources. Restrict your sources to newspaper articles from major national and international papers, published journals and magazine articles, academic sources, and websites from major organizations and government agencies. Course materials may be used as a reference, two of them may  count toward the minimum number of sources. Encyclopedias and dictionaries are not appropriate sources for college level work. Online sources are fine, but they must be authoritative sources. Wikipedia, About.com, and other nonacademic websites are not acceptable sources. (Bear in mind that anyone can submit an article to Wikipedia.)   If you are unsure about how to determine whether an online source is a good one, the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University has an excellent resource guide:https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/conducting_research/evaluating_sources_of_information/index.html. If you still have doubts as to whether a source is acceptable, send your instructor an e-mail.   Citations: All direct quotes from any source must be in quotation marks or indented and identified as a quotation in APA or Chicago/Turabian format. If you have questions about how to do this, consult the reference guides at UMGC’s Effective Writing Center. In addition, anytime you use information from a source, even if it is not a direct quote, you must include the source.  When you use quotations in your paper, you must cite the source, using the standard APA or Turabian format. The general rule of thumb for the ratio of original writing to quotes is at least four lines of analysis for any line that you quote. For the most part, you should paraphrase your sources, instead of quoting directly. Remember, as well, that you must cite your source for any sections that are paraphrased or from which you used specific information. Share an example of the analysis of that data and explain if you feel it is reliable. Why or why not? Describe how the use of that data matters as it relates to the interpretation of the data. Explain how that relates to the policy you selected. Explain how statistical data be utilized in criminal justice policy making.  Include at least two peer reviewed references. Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
