Completing this essay will allow you to analyze a response behavior you have observed. Write a two-page (500-word) paper. Describe in detail a time when you observed someone responding in an ineffective manner.  (My friend and her boyfriend fighting over a another girl) Describe the speaker’s reaction to the ineffective response. Analyze why the response was ineffective. Explain specifically what the responder could have done to respond in a more effective manner. Speculate as to what the speaker’s reaction might have been if the responder had applied your advice.

Using only black and white 1. Rhythm Use the principles of repetition, alignment, and contrast to create a composition of abstract shapes (circles, rectangles, free form shapes, etc.—whatever you choose) that conveys a sense of rhythm. The repeating circles in the example to the left were sized and positioned to create a sense of rhythm and motion. Adding a contrasting color to some of the circles would change the rhythm by making some of the “beats” more dominant.   2. Unity Use the principles of grouping, repetition, and contrast to create a unified composition of abstract shapes. In the example to the left, the repetition and alignment of the squares unifies the composition, even as the contrast in color and direction creates discrete elements. (The design space is also visually divided to follow the rule of thirds, which results in a sense of balance and proportion.)   3. Balance Use the principles of grouping (proximity, similarity, continuity…), repetition, alignment, and contrast to create a balanced—but not symmetrical—composition. In the example to the left, size, color, and shape have been used to group items, to give a sense of motion, and to bring balance to the design. The size and position of large circle allow it to balance the strong color of the star. Save each file as a gif or jpg, then combine all three into one Word or pdf file. For each image, include a title (e.g. “rhythm”) and a brief note that explains your design choices.

Tattoos and SelfBut even if you haven’t done the readings, you should be able to watch the retro video about McLuhan. Next week’s response paper will concentrate on this week’s readings as well as some more content. Several of the recent developments in communication technology can be classified as “real-world integrations.” With real-world integrations, the digital world becomes integrated with external reality. Developments that represent real-world integrations include the “Internet of Things,” spatial computing, augmented reality, and mixed reality. For further information on these real-world integrations, refer to Chapters 1, 9, 12, 13, and 18 of your course textbook and the article “Location Matters in a Digital World: Is Your Business Ready for Spatial Computing? (Links to an external site.)” (Dahan, 2017). The introduction of real-world integration has a significant impact on how we use the Internet and communicate with each other, similar to the impact of Internet service providers (ISPs) 20 to 25 years ago.
