The population being studied in the article is range from 18 to 70 years old, have clinically been identified as having RRMS by McDonald Criteria, are able to ambulate 25 feet with either no or unilateral support, living within 500 miles of Iowa City, and able to participate in dietary changes and shop for their food. These participants were further divided into two groups, the group values at 45 assuming a 25% attrition rate to continue with the 34 patients required in each group. To date the study has recruited 58 participants and is ongoing, with the group randomized blind to the study observer to a low fat or paleo diet. Changes in patient outcomes is measured by subjective report. As the expectation in the study is improvement in both groups, and the reported data is subjective, modifications to the study were added, with a 12 week observation of normal diet, and measure from and accelerometer for actual physical data was added. The study itself includes a 36 week, parallel, randomized trial with 2 groups broke into three 12 week intervals of observation, intervention, and follow up.
