Select a photograph art piece to use as a point of inspiration.  Create an art piece of photography inspired by your selected art piece.   Write a reflection about the relationship between your art production and the inspiration piece.  Include the following in your reflection: – Introduction – Inspiration piece      – Include the inspiration photography within the document.        – Record the title, artist/director, year, and place of origin.      – Briefly explain the background of the inspiration piece. – Your Art Piece      – Include your original photograph within the document.        – Provide a title      – Explain the background of your piece. – Connection      – Explain the thematic connection between the two pieces.      – How are they similar and different?      – Are they the same medium?  How does the medium impact what the viewer experiences?      – How do the formal elements of designs compare to one another?       – Original Artwork Requirements      – Photograph, NO COMPUTER-GENERATED PIECES – Writing Requirements (APA format)      – Length:  2 pages not including title page, images, or reference page

Choose an example of a controversial work of art (literature, sculpture, television, film, etc.) from the 20th or 21st centuries then address the following: – Identify the work and the medium – Based on your example, to what extent does this work of controversial art make a social contribution? – What aesthetic value does the work have?  How does it reflect the human condition?  How does it relate to your life? – Has this work ever been censored?  If so, explain the circumstances. – Are governments ever justified in censoring art?  Why or why not? – Examine some of the influences of this work of art.  – Argue whether or not this work should be considered art.  Explain why. – Include an accompanying statement from the artist (s) and a statement from a critic to support your points. – Length:  2 pages

For each work of art provide  1. the name of the artist 2. the title of the art work 3. piece is thoroughly discussed and insightful details provided and can also reference additional works of art

Project Requirement: For this project, you will be creating a proposal for an original work of art that may use theatre, music, visual art, or any combination of media. The proposal should include the following components: 1. A project title 2. A summary of the proposed project( the what, where, and when of the work)- be as specific as possible.  3. A project description that provides an argument for how your work answers the question.  4. A description of who the intended audience is.  5. A summary of the art world you think your work fits into along with a bibliography of art works, theories, and/or critics that have informed this creative thinking.

You will select one of the major, heard-of artist mentioned in the textbook as a subject for your research paper.  Step 1: Research the artist and a theme within their work This paper should be more than just being “about” the artist. It is not a biography. Focus on two pieces by the artist. Identify a theme or central idea about the artist or his/her artwork (your thesis) and then build the essay around that idea. Select an artist from the list below Robert Mapplethorpe The expectation is that the research should represent information from several sources (at least 3 — websites will only count as sources if they are online versions of print material) and that any direct borrowing of wording from these sources will be indicated by quotation marks and listed on the works cited page. Step 2: Write the essay Draft your thesis (remember, this is not a biography paper so your thesis needs to be about the art) Identify a common theme within the artist works What is the context of their work? Cultural? Spiritual? Political? Historical?

Instructions For the final assignment of your Research Project, you are to create a one page artist exhibition brochure, highlighting a work of art done by the artist Polykleitos. You will need to include the following: Paragraph about fictitious event and gallery/museum.  Be creative and come up a time, date, and place for the event. Develop a vocabulary for criticizing, evaluating, and describing works of art. You are asked to act as an art critic and analyze a series of works. When art critics discuss art, they describe art works in terms of style and medium. Art critics interpret meanings of art and make judgments of a work’s validity to the importance of a piece in the larger context of art history and culture. Art critics also evaluate art in the context of aesthetics. You will assume the role of a critic. View each piece of work listed below and analyze it as a piece of art, identifying key elements of the work and using terminology common to the discipline. Using a few concise paragraphs for each piece, your analysis should discuss each work as a critic would and include, using the proper vocabulary, what you think the work is about. Elements-identify the key elements and explain them Vocabulary- uses common vocabulary of that field of art with explanation Subject/movement-explains what the piece is about or the movement the piece represents in detail Coverage- pieces thoroughly discussed and insightful details provided.

Topic: The use of Yayoi Kusama’s work shows a perfect example of how art as therapy can provide a coping mechanism for mental illness. This can help decrease stigma on mental illnesses through the influence of the success of Kusama’s career.The paper has to present an argument in relation to the subject and the artwork and develop the discussion in the paper. Has to include the pertinent historical period and pertinent political, social , or historical views as well as the context of the artist’s subjectivity, practice, materials, and intended meaning. Paper has to include 6 different citations. Don’t include citation web pages such as Wikipedia, metropolitan museum web info, khan academy, or any other unauthorized essays that are not legitimate sources. The criteria for the assessment includes quality of argument and use of originality, organization and presentation of ideas.
