For this assinmgent, you are going to be acting as an art critic and critiquing a work of art you find on one of the above gallery webpages. Defining Art Criticism: • Art criticism is responding to, interpreting meaning, and making critical judgments about specific works of art.· • Art critics help viewers perceive, interpret, and judge artworks. • Critics tend to focus more on modern and contemporary art from cultures close to their own while art historians tend to study works made in cultures that are more distant in time and space. You are going to be a critic! • When initially introduced to art criticism, many people associate negative connotations with the word “criticism.” • A professional art critic may be: o a newspaper reporter o a scholar writing for professional journals or texts, or· o an artist writing about other artists. This is a scholarship essay and will be judged by four people on the following: Writing Ability, Wisdom, Originality, and Overall excellence. Please be creative. This is being sponsored by a paint company so I would think it can relate to any form of art. It doesn’t have a specific format or number of sources required but I did add 2 just in case. The essay can be a poem or anything that stands out from other students who are also applying.

Like I mentioned, the essay doesn’t have explicit guidelines, so it’s best to just follow a standard professional style and format. That means using 1-inch page margins, 12-point font size double-spaced (or 1.5 spaced), and a “standard” font like Times New Roman in classic (default) black. Don’t get creative with fonts or colors here. I want the content of my essay to be what stands out, rather than the unorthodox formatting.

Personally I did take a quick course in fashion and digital design. So any of these examples can be added but they’re not mandatory.

Please also write a maximum of 500 words. The system did not allow me choose this option but the essay cannot be longer than 500 words.
