World Civilization
To demonstrate your understanding of world civilizations, your final essay will focus on the analysis of the rise and fall of empires/kingdoms throughout the time period in which we studied. Remember, this is NOT a summary of the events or the empire/kingdom, it is an analysis of the similarities and differences. Also, you will be making one last final connection to today’s society. For this assignment, pick an empire/kingdom from each group below and develop an essay addressing each of the following components: 1. Compare and contrast the development/creation of the empires/kingdoms. 2. Compare and contrast the decline/fall of the empires/kingdoms. 3. Explain which of the empires/kingdoms you choose had the greatest influence on our society today. Make sure to provide examples of how this civilization can be seen in our society today.
Social Networks
The uploaded document is an example of how the essay should be. I don’t request to address the reflection questions. The research topic will be the impact of technology on interpersonal communication. I would like to have some insight on social networks as well. Thank you.
Poetry As An Art
What are your thoughts about poetry as an art form? Do you think it has value ? Do you enjoy it ? Why or why not ?
Biocatalytic Application
For this assignment, you will pick a research article published in the past 10 years that describes the engineering of an enzyme and its use in a biocatalytic application. Please ensure it is a RESEARCH ARTICLE and NOT A REVIEW. Prepare a Powerpoint presentation (1520 slides) that describes the article. Goals To learn about enzyme engineering and biocatalysis, using all the knowledge that you acquired in class To learn how to read a research article, extract and convey essential information. Pick a research article that describes the engineering of an enzyme and its use in biocatalysis – For help in finding a suitable article, you can use PubMed or Google Scholar. Journals that publish this type of study include: Nature, Science, Nature Chemistry, Nature Catalysis, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, ACS Catalysis, etc. Include, as necessary for understanding, information such as: – Name of enzyme and EC number – Cofactor required – Substrate – Kinetic parameters (kcat, KM) – Reaction catalyzed and mechanism – Reaction conditions (pH, T, solvent, etc.) – Assay used to characterize enzyme – Mutagenesis method and screening/selection assay – Type of enzyme engineering (rational design vs directed evolution) – Enzyme structure – Type of biocatalytic transformation (e.g., fermentation, biotransformation, etc.) – Biocatalytic process (e.g., deracemization, direct asymmetric synthesis, kinetic resolution, cofactor recycling, etc.) – Use 35 bullet points on slides if necessary (except when showing figures). When showing figures, include short legend to understand the figure. SUGGESTION: use a sentence to provide take-home message, either as title of slide or as statement at the bottom of your slide (see example assignment). Guidelines: 1. Introduction (57 slides) a. Explain context and background needed to understand paper (i.e. what is the current state?of?the?art? why should we care about this study?) b. Describe system under study (i.e., enzyme and/or method) c. Clearly state the objective and hypothesis of the current study 2. Methods and Results (812 slides) a. Describe what the authors did and show results from article (i.e. copy/paste figures and tables, with appropriate legend so that reader can understand) b. Explain important methods, especially if these are new engineering strategies 3. Discussion and Conclusions (23 slides) a. Put these findings in the context of the field (i.e. discussion, how does this compare to previous methods or previous work?) b. Summarize what the findings of the paper were (i.e., what was achieved? Did it work?) c. Future directions Please ensure to answer all key points
Physiological Effects
Nutrition plays a vital role in a person’s overall health and well-being. Not getting enough of the recommended nutrients over the long-term can lead to malnutrition which often results in disease and illness. In a 3-page paper, written in APA format using proper spelling/grammar, address the following: Define malnutrition and identify a specific disease that can result from it. Perform library research about the selected disease, and explain its physiological effects on a person’s body. Describe the relationship between specific foods/nutrients and the disease. Use the questions below to guide your response. Does research indicate that a lack of specific foods/nutrients increase a person’s chance of contracting the disease? Are there specific foods/nutrients that should be avoided by an individual afflicted with the disease? How do specific foods/nutrients work physiologically within the body to help combat the disease? Evaluate nutritional recommendations to help combat the disease. Cite at least 3 credible references and present the resources in APA format on the References page. For information about the impact of diseases on body systems and assessing the credibility of resources, consult the resources below.

I do not have very specific info from the professor. The only file she has given is how to write a lab report pdf she pulled from the tutoring center. I am flexible on the subject of the paper. If it needs to be changed to something else, please message me to ensure that we went over it in my class. I dont want to turn in a paper on something we didnt cover. This week you are designing, carrying out, and writing up your own physics experiment! The December 7-10 pages provide guidance, and I expect to see you at virtual office hours with questions! Im happy to help you at any stage of the process, even to help you think of an experiment. I will be asking the following questions when I grade: Is this an experiment that relates substantively to PHY 111? (You can make the connection clear in your introduction.) Are the independent, dependent, and control variables clear and appropriate? Does the experiment actually address the hypothesis? Was the experiment carried out with appropriate measurements and precision? Is a thorough and accurate understanding of the relevant physics demonstrated? Is the experiment original (we didnt already do it in class and I cant find it in existence already online)? Is the conclusion appropriate and commensurate with the results? Does the lab report follow the guidelines both the format and the substance of each section?

Music Composer
The purpose of this report is to study one Jazz, Blues or Rock N’ Roll music composer/artist from any era. (Creedence Clearwater Revival is the band this paper will be about) After you have chosen your topic and had it approved by the instructor, study your topic in depth and write a 3-5 page report about it. Your textbook provides a very thorough list of music composers. If you have interest in a composer whose name is not in the textbook, it must be approved by the instructor. It is the students responsibility to choose a topic for this report. How to get started: 1) Select a minimum of 60 minutes worth of music from your chosen topicand listen to the music a minimum three times through. Recordings will generally be available online, and some may be available at the library. Before choosing recordings, you should read enough about the composer to know which works are their most significant works. 2) Read about the composers life and music. If there isnt much in the library about your composer, you can search for magazine and newspaper articles and reviews on the internet. You should spend a considerable amount of time reading, researching and learning about your topic. CD liner notes are also a good source of information, if they are provided. 3) After your research and listening are complete, organize your notes and the music you listened to, and then answer each of the following questions in list form, in order. Keep your report at no more or less than 3-5 pages in length. No cover page is necessary. Part I: Basic Information Provide the following basic information about the composer, the music you listened to, and the sources you consulted: A. Composers full name, birth date and location, as well as death date and location (or, if still alive, where s/he lives now) B. A complete list of the music you listened to, including all of the following information: composition title, album name and release year C. Complete list of your reading resources Example: Grove Online Dictionary of Music: Article on Scott Joplin H.C. Robbins Landon: The Mozart Compendium (Schirmer Books) If you read ten short magazine articles, your list would look like this: The Story of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Rolling Stone Magazine, June 1969 CSN Take Madison Square Garden, New York Times review, July 1970, etc. Note: This is a book and article list rather than a full bibliography, which might be required in another course. For hardcover books, you should include the publishers name. For magazines and newspapers, give the name and issue date. You should be able to fit all the above information onto one page. You will need the rest of the pages to answer the short essay questions from Part II below. Part II: Short Essay questions There are 5 questions which should fit on the remaining pages. You can write a little more for some and a little less for others. Write clearly and informatively, and be concise. Demonstrate what you have learned about your composer and his/her music. A. Why did you choose this composer? Had you heard this music before, or did you discover it for the first time during this project? Discuss aspects of the musical period, the style, or the musicians catalog that attracted you. B. Summarize important events in the composers life, such as musical family background, teachers or influences, first artistic successes, and later masterworks. Demonstrate why the composer was significant. C. Out of your list of songs by your composer, choose three (3) favorite pieces and write a short essay paragraph about each one. Include the following: a. Brief description of the work b. When, where, and why the work was written c. What you liked about the piece · Be as specific as possible. For example, you could say, I like the way the strings played long running passages it was very exciting. · Use the techniques we have learned in class to understand the music, and describe it in terms of its specific elements. For example, you could say, The melody was very regular, but the rhythm was syncopated and uneven. D. Now, of the three works you chose above, take one of your favorite pieces and answer the following question about it: How did this piece make you feel? Be subjective. You may have juxtaposed reactions, or opposite emotions such as happy/sad, relaxed/tense, light/heavy. Choose the words that best describe your feelings about the music. Relate these feelings to the elements of the music itself. For example, you could say, The slow rhythm and complex harmonies made me feel very tense. It built up to a strong climax, when suddenly, the rhythm became fast and pulsating and the harmonies changed quickly. E. In conclusion, think about the composer you chose and the music you listened to. Answer these questions: How did listening to this composers music and learning about his/her life affect my appreciation of music? What discoveries did I make about the music and about myself as a music listener? The purpose of this question is for you to journal your experience with the music. Assignment Requirements -Your assignment must be 3-5 pages in length (no more or less), and it must address both Part I and Part II. – A standard writing style format is preferred but not required.
