Part 2 The second part of this exam will be a long essay, in great detail, chosen from a list of two essays listed below.    The length of this essay that would fit 2- 4 pages of 8 & 1/2 x 11 inch pieces of paper.  The content of the essay needs to cover all the topics listed in the essay question plus examples to fill out your answer.  And detail means tell me every thing you can based on the lecture notes, the study guide and the text book.  The essay is worth 50 points. Essay choice one:  Knowing what you do about the founding Fathers’ idea of separation of powers and checks and balances, write an essay, in detail, describing how the federal (national) government operates.  Topics must include:  What are the three branches of our government (in detail) ?  How do they cooperate?  How are they in conflict?  How is the conflict resolved?  How is the Senate different from the House?  Do you think this system works well today?  Why/why not? Essay choice two:  Describe the five roles of the President.  Topics must include:  What powers (in detail) are set aside by the Constitution for the President?   How are these roles or powers exercised?   How much can the President do own his or her own and how much must be done in cooperation with Congress?  Who is more powerful today, the President or Congress?  Explain.

Topic that you must address: When and where was Edith Piaf born? Were there any obstacles in her life that should have prevented her success? How did overcoming obstacles help her music career? What famous French songs is Piaf known for? How did the French people’s reaction to her death illustrate her impact on French music? Why are her songs still sung/imitated by artists today? The purpose of this assignment is to make you become more critically aware of musical sounds in your daily life, how they are used, and what is their function. Music is all around us, some of which is fore fronted in our awareness, such as concerts, or practicing a musical instrument, or listening at home to a new song on your iPod; while others are mere background, a kind of sonic wallpaper which we may not even be aware of, such as music playing in a store, or music in commercials, films, or TV shows. In the time of covid-19, the musicscape has gone through a transformation. Concerts have been canceled, audiences have disappeared, rehearsals suspended, live events now broadcast remote via pixel dots. Yet people have found ways to be together musically, whether on the internet or apartment balconies. This musicscape, of course, is part of a more encompassing soundscape, which itself has undergone transformation. Staying at home, for example, seems to have led to a reduction in traffic, thus quieter streets and less pollution, though this is rapidly changing. All of this is material for a well-constructed paper (6-8 double spaced pages) that demonstrates critical thought. The paper must cite at least 3 specific examples from your musicscape and 3 examples from other appropriate sources (newspapers, magazines, media sites, journal articles). Your paper should address the following questions: How is music situated within your particular soundscape? Are there overall patterns? How do particular musical genres relate to specific situations? What were the functions and uses of music (emotional release, to sell a product, enhance a film, worship as a community)? Was most of the music mediated or live, passive or active, or, these days, virtual which is somewhere in between these binaries? What kind of conclusions or statements can be made about the musicscape around you and by extension to the United States? Are there aspects of this musicscape that are unique? Importantly, how has the musicscape changed due to the pandemic? Understand the audience: Look on the company’s website (Booking.com), blog or search for more information to understand the audience. Ask yourself questions such as: Are they known for serving one type of audience vs. another?  If you were to guess, who do you think your company’s top customer personas would be? Families? Business people? Other companies? Has your company been in the press? Is a certain audience described in the press? What audiences is the company reaching through media placements? Deliverable: Individual assignment. Each student should create a summary of findings about the company, competitors and audience.
