The commodity chain analysis paper considers the impact of the commodity in various ways. The paper should outline the commodity chain for a product as specifically as possible (try to identify particular commodities and not the generic commodity if possible). The paper should also consider, analytically, the consequences of production or consumption on cultural, economic or political globalization. The paper should be organized in sections, with a one to two-page section for each of the categories below: (a) detailed presentation of the commodity chain; (b) labor conditions under which the commodity is produced; (c) environmental consequences of the production process; (d) effects of the production process on people (health, status, etc) in relevant regions; (e) health effects associated with the consumption of the product; Your paper should be at least 8 – 10 pages, typed and double-spaced. It should be written in APA style; including a Cover Page, Abstract, 8-10 pages of text, and a works cited page. Final term papers are due on the final day of class (see schedule).

Chart of Important Information About Your Site (10 points) Create a chart that includes the following information IN THIS ORDER about your site: –        name of the site –        dates when site was created and used –        culture/civilization site belonged to –        exact location (longitude and latitude) –        country and nearest major cities/settlements today –        how site was discovered (e.g., accidental? aerial photography? Who?) –        type of political organization represented by the site (band, tribe, chiefdom, state) –        type of economic system of the society –        total population of the civilization/society in which site existed –        total population of the site itself (if it was a habitation site; if not, specify) –        evidence of trade at the site (be specific: what items from where) –        evidence (if any) of status differentiation –        type of religion practiced by makers of the site –        significant artifacts –        significant features –        significant ecofacts –        important information about matrix (or matrices) at the site for preservation –        controversies (describe in brief phrases); if none exist, please state –        three sentences that summarize the significance of the site: Why is it important? Aside from the last part (3 sentences), the information in your chart can be presented using words, numbers, and phrases (not complete sentences), as appropriate. The chart should be labeled at the top (name of your site) and include two columns: the left one containing the category, and the right one containing the information.

I want you to read the short essay by Agustin Fuentes called “Anthropology helps us bust myths about human nature: for example, are men and women really that different?” In the article Fuentes busts the myth of differences between men and women and reminds us how our assertions of a man/woman dichotomy is almost entirely culturally constructed.  Now, your assignment. Heteronormativity is the idea that heterosexuality is the “normal” form of human sexual expression. Please answer these questions in a thoughtful essay: 1) How is this notion of heteronormativity reinforced and replicated in daily life?  2) Considering the what you’ve learned earlier in the course, how do culture, language, symbols, etc. work to suggest that heterosexual relationships are the norm? Provide at least one example. 3) Finally, what sorts of effects can heteronormativity have on people of various sexual orientations and gender identities? This is an opportunity to bring in other aspects and topics of the course, such as enculturation, race, sex, gender, stratification, kinship, or other topics you find relevant. Be sure to show that you understand the concept(s) you discuss. Especially gender and sex – reread Chapter 13 if you need to. You shouldn’t need to do much outside research, but if you do, please use a standard citation style, such as MLA. Your essay should be no less than 400 words and no more than 600 words. Your essay will be graded on content and style. Please note that the document you upload should be in Word format or .txt or .rtf.
