Study Guide for ANTH 1100 Final Exam – Summer 2020 The final exam will consist of two parts. There will be an essay question (listed below) that students are required to study for in the final few weeks of the course and prepared to write on August 10th.  Prepare an outline as you study/review your materials on how you would answer the question using the textbook, the lectures, films and discussion forums. The page limit for answering this question is 3 typed double-spaced pages (approximately 250 words per page) in a 12 point font. The minimum requirement for this exam essay question is 1.5 pages. As you will have had this essay question for a number of weeks prior to the exam the essay answer should include both an introduction, a set of arguments as well as a conclusion. This means that H. naledi was around at the same time as some of the later Homo. In this assignment, you will locate a scientific article on H. naledi and compare that to the article provided. Then describe the morphology of H. naledi and the impact H. naledi could have on our established ideas of hominin evolution. In this week we met the members of the genus Homo, our genus. We watched over millions of years as species changed in response to climate and environmental factors. Our species is quite special. We are so intelligent and so innovative, that we have certainly outsmarted natural selection in some ways. For instance, if you have light skin you don’t have to stay in the north, you can simply wear sunscreen. Or if you are tall with long limbs, you don’t have to avoid cold climates, you can simply wear warm clothes. This has caused many people to assume that our species has stopped evolving, but is this true? It certainly is not! For this discussion, please research one example of how our species is still currently evolving. It must be a real example based on a scholarly reading.
