Write a 1,250 to 1,500-word paper on the following topic: Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, Ibram Kendi argues that “Racially discriminatory policies have usually sprung from economic, political, and cultural self-interests, self-interests that are constantly changing.” Your paper is to 1) state whether agree or disagree with Kendi’s thesis (above in quotes); 2) support your position by defining and discussing the evolution of antiracism, assimilationism, and segregationism from the Seventeenth to the Twenty-First Century; and (3) extensively utilize Stamped from the Beginning to support your position (i.e. demonstrate that you’ve read the book by drawing from all five sections). my stand on this book is: I agree with the author’s thesis. Though this is an analysis of historical events, it is also your interpretation of these events. As such, the paper must include a clearly stated thesis in the introduction and that thesis must be supported in the body of the paper. You may use outside sources (2 external) to support your argument. However, all sources must be properly cited in the paper. As you consider a potential thesis for your research paper, it might be helpful to begin with asking yourself the question, what should people about this topic, and why is it important for them to know it? the thesis of your essay should be an answer to this question. And the paper must include at least three reliable, appropriate sources that you locate using the research and information literacy skills covered in the library sessions.

Histories of science and medicine often paint their subjects as stories of progress with humanity moving from darkness into a state of enlightenment. On one hand, the fight against polio certainly bears some resemblance, in that a frightening disease came to be understood and effectively conquered by modern technology. On the other hand, as Oshinsky shows, progress isnt always  the story of knowledge overcoming ignorance. For this essay, I ask you to put the novel, Polio; An American Story, in conversation with both Rosenberg’s The Cholera Years and your own experience and/or observations of the covid-19 pandemic. In an essay of 700 words or so, address the following; First, how might these pandemics complicate the story of progress? Why might it be difficult to draw a straight line from cholera, through polio, to the coronavirus? Second, consider whether or not medical or technological progress can be understood in isolation from other contexts (legal, political, social, cultural, etc.) Finally, explain which public response to one of these diseases might be considered the best or strongest. In your explanation, be sure to offer a clear rationale as to why you think one set of responses is better than each of the other two.  A good response contains; A discussion of at least 700 words (more than two pages), divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. A clear thesis (preferably in the introduction) that addresses the essay prompt. A general explanation of the argument (in the introduction) that outlines your response. Several body paragraphs, each with its own topic. Specific historical evidence from Oshinsky’s book Polio; An American Story, but feel free to incorporate any of the other readings, primary sources, or videos. A concluding paragraph that ties the body paragraphs together and covinceingly restates the thesis.

This week, you have examined the dramatic changes in America at the turn of the twentieth century. The “Populists, Progressives, and Laborers” historical readings for this week revealed that myriad reforms people called for in response to those dramatic changes. Drawing evidence from the historical readings for this week, compose an initial post highlighting one major motivation for coming to America. There are a number you could choose to focus on. Compose the initial post based on a thesis statement. A thesis is a focused argument based on your reading of the historical documents. You are expected to pull evidence from multiple documents to support your argument. No outside sources are allowed. You may draw from the lectures and the textbook reading to help provide context BUT your post should draw evidence primarily from the historical readings for evidence. In your post, be sure to: State a clear thesis Use evidence from the historical documents to support your claims There are several questions you may ask to help you develop a thesis (you cannot answer all these questions—these are just examples): How did these reform movements compare? Did they want to achieve similar goals? Did they have similar values? Did they differ? Did they seek to work together? What were some of the key solutions offered by these reform movements? What were their views on government? What was their view of the individual? How did the dramatic changes in American culture affect these people? How had America changed in their opinions? Your initial post of 300-400 words and response of 100 words are due as noted on the syllabus.  Each response post should be a critique, pointing out to a fellow student ways he or she could improve, clarify, expand, etc.

1.       Critique the author.  Provide a background history of the author.  Where is he/she from?  What is his/her background as far as education, other publications, and any awards?  You need to determine whether the author is qualified to write about the subject and if he/she shows any biases in the presentation of the material.   2.       Critique the book.  What is the author’s topic?  How does he present the information?  What is his thesis?  How effective is he in presenting his thesis? What evidence does the author cite to support his/her thesis?     3.       Critique the sources.  What sources, if any, does the author use?  What type of sources are used, primary or secondary?  Does the author utilize all the available sources?

Comment on the connection Rodriguez makes between language and spirtuality (he discusses his Catholic faith in the context of language of the church).

Problem solving-alleviate the situation, solve , improve or make progress on   Africans and their descendants have survived the legacy of slavery, yet are affected psychologically, physically, socially and economically through the systemic institutional racism in the United States of America.                  Descendants of slavery should receive reparations due to the fact that Slavery is a Crime Against Humanity. Crimes Against Humanity are defined by the United Nations as: Murder and extermination, enslavement and forced labor, deportation outside of the country, imprisonment without due process of law, torture, rape, inhuman acts- including a) medical experimentation b) mutilation, c) food deprivation d) sterilization e)violation of cadavers f) other mental or physical harm; Persecution including; removal of children from school, forced wearing of distinctive clothing, closure of religious institutions, banning of religious leaders; Property crimes, including: a) destruction and plunder of private and cultural property. From the weekly readings specified in the syllabus, you are required to write an essay on ONE of the articles from the Stinebrickner’s reader (Annual Editions: American Government).
