How did/should black Americans respond to Jim Crow? Read the following articles: Booker T. Washington’s “Atlanta Exposition” (Links to an external site.) W.E.B. DuBois’s “Souls of Black Folk.” (Links to an external site.) Write two paragraphs for each man/document. Make sure you address the following for each one: What is the author’s argument? What should black Americans do in response to the onset of Jim Crow laws? Briefly summarize why each man feels that way. What are his reasons for suggesting what he does?

1) There is no specific style requirement. MLA, APA, Chicago, ect… are all fine. The paper just needs to have a bibliography and in-text citations 2) The paper should build an essay response to the prompt. Prompt is, Imagine the date is July 4th, 1896. The nation is celebrating its 120th birthday. People throughout the United States are making speeches. Imagine that you are one of these three characters: Nate Shaw, a Black sharecropper from Georgia, Ben McDonald, a farmer from Nebraska who is a member of the Populist Party, Ivan Stoyanvich, a steelworker and a radical labor organizer who immigrated from Poland (who is really smart and speaks English pretty well.)
