(10 points) How would current societal views impact views on this issue?(10 points) What level would it be proposed at? Local? State? Federal? (10 points) Who would be additional groups, politicians, etc. that would help advocate for the same policy? (must include at least 2) (10 points) What research/evidence/similar laws are out there that could be modeled in your proposal? — must include at least 3 citations (10 points) Would you use a collaborative strategy, campaign strategy, contest strategy? Ballot initiative? Justify your response (10 points) How would you track that people are actually following the proposed law? (process) (10 points) How would track that your proposed law was actually working? (outcomes) (10 points) Option 1b–proposing modifications to existing or pending legislation For this option you will conduct research on a bill that NASW NE has monitored  (Links to an external site.) , or on an existing local or state law and prepare a proposal to modify existing or pending legislation. To do so, submit a document that answers each of the following (1 paragraph response per question minimum unless otherwise indicated) Write a 1 page summary in your own words of what this bill is intended to achieve. (10 points) What is the status of the bill? (2.5 points) Who sponsored it? (2.5 points) Who supports it? who is likely not to support it? (10 points) How would you amend the bill? Must make at least 3 specific recommendations (10 points) Why is this an ethical or moral issue that deserves attention? (10 points) How would current societal views impact views on this issue? (10 points) Why is it being proposed at a state level? (10 points) Who would be additional groups, politicians, etc. that did/are helping advocate for the bill? (must include at least 2) (10 points) Does the legislation include a way to monitor implementation? (10 points) How would you monitor if the legislation had the anticipated outcomes you were hoping for? (10 points) Part 2 (50 points) Review and synthesize the information you put together for part 1. Your task is now to share this information/proposal. You can either share it with a government official, advocacy group, or a letter to the editor in order to educate the general public.  Write a letter- 1-1.5 pages that achieves the following: Letter utilizes professional letter format (or meets requirements of letter to the editor) (5 points) Letter is addressed to the appropriate individual (representative, or required letter to the editor format) (5 points) Letter outlines the goal/intent of your proposal (5 points) Letter utilizes both logic/evidence as well as emotional appeal and brings in at least 1 source (10 points) Letter includes a specific call to action/suggestions (10 points) Letter is written in a positive and constructive tone–it may challenge others but does so in a civil way (5 points) Letter is succinct and clearly organized, looks professional, no typos (5 points) Screen shot confirming that the letter was actually sent (5 points)
