Stock Exchange Executive Summary

The first paragraph should be ‘Executive Summary’. It should summarize the 10 stocks (5 given from me and 5 of your own) overall performance from August 27 to Dec 1. And you should compare your portfolio’s performance with a benchmark, such as, S&P 500 index performance during the same period. S&P 500 index daily value can be found at http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=^GSPC.   Get each stock’s beta and its weight in. You can get individual stock’s beta from finance.yahoo.com. Click ‘key statistics’ on the left after you enter the webpage of the stock. For instance, Apple Computers’ beta can be found at http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=AAPL. Find the betas for all your stocks. Explain what type of stocks you selected based upon the key variables you just collect. Are they large stocks (large market cap, usually greater than 10 billion)? Are they growth stocks (high P/E and P/S ratios)? Are they hot stocks (relative high past 6 month return and past 12 month return)?  If you were to have a million dollars to purchase the 10 stocks Tell me what you were thinking when you bought these stocks. Or, what made you decide to buy or short these stocks. For the top 5 stocks  list the following key variables for each stock in a table.  –           Get market cap, beta, price/book, forward P/E, PEG ratio, ROA, Profit margin for each stock. Again, all of them can be found by clicking ‘key statistics’. Historical stock prices can be found by clicking ‘Historical Prices’ on the left. For apple, it is at http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=AAPL. Prices are in the last column – “adj close”. To Calculate returns, for example: the 6 month return = price at July 31st divided by price on Jan 31st minus 1. –           Get Analyst Mean Recommendation and analyst forecast return. You can find analyst mean recommendation and mean price target by analysts by clicking ‘Analyst Opinions’. (You need to get these from company’s balance sheets and income statements.  •       Value and Value Added •       Measuring Profitability •       Measuring Efficiency •       Analyzing the Return on Assets: The Du Pont System •       Measuring Leverage •       Measuring Liquidity •       Calculating Sustainable Growth •       Interpreting Financial Ratios   Remember: Ratios are not very helpful by themselves: they need to be compared to something.
