Women and the Anti-Slavery Movement

In the 1836, abolitionist activist and speaker Angelina Grimké published her “Appeal to Christian Women of the South.”  At the time, it was considered inappropriate for women to speak in public and HIGHLY inappropriate for women to involve themselves in political causes. Respond to the following prompt: How does Angelina Grimkés letter reflect common beliefs and social expectations about women’s roles in the 1830s, and how does Grimkés letter challenge those common beliefs and social expectations?  To support your reading, you must show how specific passages from Grimke’s letter demonstrate or challenge the cultural norms surrounding women that are mentioned in the lecture and in The American Yawp.
