This is the final product of your independent study and should be less than 4,000 words, excluding the bibliography and any appendixes (if applicable). This does not have to have original empirical work as a dissertation, but it should be more than just an extended essay. As a student in the final year, your project should demonstrate that you understand the significance and key aspects of your chosen planning issue. It should be more than just an essay and should be based on desk-based research, guided by a structured framework (e.g. theory, assessment tool, conceptual framework), and discussed in terms of how it fits within wider planning debates. There is flexibility with respect to how you structure the project, but it should include an introduction with a clear statement of the research question. The body of the text should have appropriate sub-headings and follow a logical structure. You should also include a concluding section that summarises the key messages and points of your argument. Your project will be assessed with respect to how well you demonstrate achievement of the module’s learning outcomes.
