Blue-Eyed/Brown-Eyed Experiment

1) On a piece of paper, make two columns. Label one column “boys” and the other column “girls.” 2) Watch the “Blue-Eyed/Brown-Eyed Experiment” which can be accessed at PBS.   This video clip is about 25 minutes long; you only need to watch the first 17 minutes for this assignment.   If you prefer, you can read the transcript of the video. Please be advised that there are racial slurs in this video. While offensive, the video still has merit. That said, if you find the video too offensive, you may contact me, no later than 24 hours in advance of the first post, and I will give you a different assignment for this activity. 3) While watching the first 17 minutes, mark the number of times Mrs. Elliott interacts with boys in the “boy” column and the number of times Mrs. Elliott interacts with girls in the “girl” column.  Count up the total number of interactions for boys and girls. 4) Include the following two things in your initial post:  First, how many times Mrs. Elliott interacted with boys and how many times Mrs. Elliott interacted with girls.  Second, tell me if this an example of a manifest or latent function and explain why. To do this, click on the little grey box at the bottom that says “Add a New Discussion Topic.” Print your title in the box that says “subject” and your comments in the box under “message.” When you are finished, click on the grey box that says “post to the forum.”
