King Lear

This assignment is based on the reading of King Lear by William Shakespeare – specifically the entire ACT ONE of the play. Act one has a total of five scenes that go along with it. You must read the entire act one, so all five scenes, before you go on to answer TWO questions about act one. I am going to paste a link to access a PDF version of the reading, you will see the first option is a pdf version of King Lear, please hit “download” and it will give you the entire pdf version of the reading – scroll down to act one and read the whole thing and stop at act two. Also, read the synopsis and the character list to familiarize yourself.  Here is the link to download the PDF version of King Lear;  https://shakespeare.folger.edu/shakespeares-works/king-lear/download/ When you are done reading act one, and have fully comprehended and analyzed it, you must answer two questions that I will put below. One question should receive a full response to it, answering the prompt question in-depth, along with TEXTUAL EVIDENCE (QUOTES) from act one that supports your words. The response should be a well-developed paragraph or more – whatever you feel is right – as long as the question is fully answered with quotes and strong analysis! The same for the second question – please respond to it in a well-developed response using quotes to back up your words and strong analysis of the question and quote.  The structure should be, the question and then the answer and then the second question underneath that with its own response.  NOTE – When citing Shakespeare plays, list the ACT, SCENE, and LINES in parenthetical citations (page numbers are NOT included), separated by periods. Enclose the citation in parentheses. For example: (Macbeth 1.3.14-17) refers to Act 1, Scene 3, Lines 14 to 17 of Macbeth. Question 1 – Lear, Act One; Lear’s Love Test – Why do you think Lear chooses this moment to ask his daughters to measure their love for him, and what does he hope to achieve through the test? Question 2 – Lear, Act one; Edmund – Why do you think the play opens by discussing Edmund’s illegitimacy, and what connection do you see between his storyline and Lear’s relationship with his daughters? Please answer both questions in its own well-developed lengthy response with quotes from Act one to support and STRONG ANALYSIS – explain how the quote answers the prompt and what it shows – Response MUST BE STRONG AND FORMAL WRITING. Try to Split the 900-word count evenly answering both questions in a well-developed response.
