[SOLVED] Governmental Policies
The idea that the United States is a nation of laws is part of our common knowledge. Less well known is the relationship between laws and the concept we call race. Your task in this paper is to explain some of the many connections between race and laws/governmental policies in the United States, both in the colonial and post- independence periods. Draw upon the readings of the course to explain how racial laws/policies became part of the American system and society. Be specific and give good examples. What were the goals and purposes of these racial laws/policies. What were their actual effects? Make sure to articulate continuities and/or changes in the laws and policies that you choose to examine. You must use at least 4 direct quotes from the readings. Use the quotes to support the argument you are making. Cite your source in parentheses at the end of the sentence with the quote, i.e. (Horsman, p. 88).
