The writing assignment will include a description of the academic integrity and honesty policy, why it’s important, the implications of university students submitting papers that don’t conform to academic honesty standards, and how Capella learners can avoid academic honesty violations. b. The document should be a minimum of three pages for the body of the writing, not including title page and references, and should be formatted according to APA style, e.g., double-spacing throughout, citations and references as merited, proper GUM (grammar, usage, and mechanics), etc. c. You are directed to use the academic honesty materials on Campus and other scholarly sources to help complete this assignment. d. Specific required components for this paper are: i. Indicate that you have read Capella’s Academic Integrity and Honesty policies. ii. Define and discuss paraphrasing and summarizing citations versus directly quoting the work of others, and how to correctly cite a paraphrase or summary. iii. Discuss how and when to correctly cite a direct quote, including citation examples demonstrating the distinctions between short quotes of less than 40 words and long quotes of 40 or more words. iv. Connect your discussion of scholarly writing to a discussion of professional ethics, as it applies to the inclusion of and citing the work of others. v. Discuss what you learned from reading Capella’s Academic Integrity and Honesty policy, including about collaborating with or using the work of others (in-person or online) to intentionally violate this policy. vi. Discuss how completing coursework with a heavy reliance on someone else’s work negatively impacts opportunities to learn. vii. Discuss how not gaining mastery in these writing skills and ethical considerations might negatively impact your future work in the field and profession. viii. Discuss what resources and strategies you will use to adhere to Capella’s Academic Integrity and Honesty policy in the future.
