[SOLVED] Persuasive Essay

This writing project requires that you compose a persuasive essay that uses portions of your text to evidence an original argument.  The essay must make several sub-arguments to prove this thesis.  You must utilize direct quotation, paraphrase, and summary of the text as evidence. You must cite in-text and on the work    1.  In the short story “Recitatif,” by Toni Morrison, the theme of race is prevalent, though we must ascertain on our own what race the two central characters are, including the protagonist.  Going by the theory that the protagonist is often the author, we therefore assume she is black and the central antagonist is white—though that assumption can be called into question.  Assuming that, how do the races of the characters pertain to the story?  What effect, if any, does race have on the lives of the two characters?  What expectations do we bring to the story regarding race, and how does the story feed into those expectations?  In the epiphany, when Roberta reveals that Twyla did not harm Maggie, first of all, is she lying to take mercy on Twyla, and if she is, given the theme of race, why would she lie?   2.  In “A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner, the theme of desire is prevalent.  Emily desires Homer.  The town desires to to sympathize with Emily, eventually to stand up to her, and finally to understand her.  Homer, to our read, is gay; his own desires work away from Emily.  The South itself desires to work away from its history of slavery, yet, as we know historically, and as Faulkner is criticizing, what it will work toward is no great accomplishment.  These desires conflict with one another, and the question becomes, how, and what results.  A.  How do the desires of Emily conflict with the desires of Homer? (Romantic ideal) B.  How do the desires of the South to move on conflict with the concept of progress? (Political and social ideal) B1.  In what ways is the town merely supplanting one bad thing with another? C.  Given the story, what does the murder of Homer and then Emily’s possession of him mean along these lines? (These ideals up against reality)   3.  In “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” by Flannery O’Connor, the common read—and the read Flannery O’Connor herself wanted for the story—is that when the Grandmother says, “Why you’re one of my babies.  You’re one of my own children,” she is having a moment of grace wherein all of her former hypocrisy, in particular her religious hypocrisy, is supplanted by a genuine “godliness.”  This is a poor read.  The better read is that the grandmother changes not by ascending but by descending, and the Misfit changes by ascending—the two characters, who both experience epiphanies, pass each other, with the grandmother becoming a lower person than the Misfit.  What happens in the climax of the story to make this read possible?  At what moment does the grandmother sink to her lowest, given this read, and how do we know, based on the denouement of the story, that the Misfit has changed?  What is his change, given the story’s last line: “Ain’t no real pleasure in life.”   MLA Formatting Where necessary, you must use MLA formatting to quote or paraphrase textual material.  The essay should be 4 to 5 pages in length, or roughly 1,000 words.  For MLA formatting guidelines, in preparation, please see Purdue OWL at the following website: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_formatting_and_style_guide.html Below is a quick and simple guide to MLA formatting
