[ORDER SOLUTION] The Value of Literature

In his essay, “Ultimate Discourse,” E.L. Doctorow says the following about fiction (and by extension to all of literature): “Stories were as important to survival as a spear or a hoe. They were the memory of the knowledge of the dead. They gave counsel. They connected the visible to the invisible. They distributed the suffering so that it could be borne.” What value does literature have for the narrator of Old School? As portrayed or discussed in the novel, what are the chief benefits and/or costs of literature for the reader and/or the writer? Expectations Title: Use the formula (Catchy Title: Literal Title)  Epigraph: Use a quotation from a text that has relevance for the direction of your paper.  Thesis: Your thesis should come near the end of your introductory paragraph and should be a direct response/answer to the question. Organization: Your paper should be organized by the benefits and/or costs of literature as described in the novel. Do not organize the paper by simply retelling the story. Use main points (topic sentences for your body paragraphs) that are aspects of your thesis and then use the novel and the essay to support your ideas. Evidence: Use a total of at least four brief (no more than four lines in length) quotations from the novel and one quotation from the essay (this is in addition to your epigraph). You must quote from each text. Documentation: Quotations must be documented using an in-text citation.
