You will conduct research on the various components of the Holocaust.  Please note that this is a disturbing period in the history of the world, and sources that you investigate may be disturbing, so research with caution.  Here are some recommended websites to start with as you begin your research.  If your internet speed does not support videos, there are plenty of other resources online.  Also, use extreme caution when searching the videos on YouTube as they are notorious for including trashy material and ads on their site.  You may even want to visit these sites with your parent/supervisor. Holocaust Timeline Analysis – from 1930 to 1945, many acts of discrimination were carried out against the Jews and other groups.  Out of the many events listed in this timeline, create a top five list of which events you believe to be the “worst” and provide a defense of why you made these choices.  Defend your choices well, and use resource #4 above for this analysis. Holocaust Targets – while the Jews were the primary target of Hitler, many other groups were targeted as well.  Write a summary that provides an overview of one other specific group that was targeted.  This summary should be a minimum of two solid paragraphs.  Hitler’s Worldview – to try to understand more about why the Holocaust took place – why it even began, and why it was “allowed” to occur, one must try to understand Hitler’s worldview of hatred and a Social Darwinist perspective of mankind.  Write a minimum of a two paragraph analysis that summarizes and investigates the worldview of Hitler and the Nazis.  You should use Hitler’s own words – see resources #7 & #9 above as well as any other source of your choice. What were some of his beliefs about mankind and race? What were some of his beliefs about conflict, war, and need for bloodshed? What were some of his beliefs about the Germans and the need for taking the course of action they would take in the 1930s and 1940s? Why was the Holocaust “allowed” to take place?  How was the rest of the world “blind” to Hitler and the Nazis’ actions? As always quality of writing is more important than the length.  The information found in the textbook is useful and may be a good place to start, but you will need to use additional sources and have the freedom to use any source.  Cite all sources, and this information should be included on the bottom of the last page of your research.  Any assignments received without citations will receive a zero.  Also cite any clip art or pictures used.
